To date, widened sidewalks and ramps upgraded to be in <br />compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) have been installed in the 22 and Chambers school zone for <br />nd <br />the Arts & Technology Academy (ATA)/Family School. A <br />majority of planned wayfinding signs have been put in <br />around the city and bike hoops have been installed at ATA, <br />as well as at Malabon and Irving elementary schools. All <br />legends and striping have been placed at locations around <br />the city. In addition, the path to Malabon Elementary from <br />Ellsworth Street has been constructed. <br /> <br />Elements still to be completed include installation of the <br />rectangular, rapid-flashing beacons at 18 and Friendly, <br />th <br />and at 22 and Jefferson, which is scheduled for the week <br />nd <br />of Dec. 15. Two bike shelters for Irving School should be <br />installed by Dec. 12 and speed-reader signs on Royal <br />Avenue will be installed soon as well. <br /> <br />Knife River Corp., working under contract for the Eugene <br />Schoolchildren express their appreciation for the improvements at <br />22 and Chambers <br />nd <br />Public Works Department, is the general contractor for <br />the projects with a total cost at approximately $575,000. The project has been funded by a federal Safe Routes to School <br />grant administered by the Oregon Department of Transportation. <br /> <br />For more information, view a news release online, or contact Project Manager Chuck Mueller at 541-501-0370 or 4J Safe <br />Routes to School Coordinator Shane MacRhodes at 541-556-3553. <br /> <br />Learn About Low-Cost and Free Health Insurance at Eugene Public Library <br />Community members can find out about low-cost and free health insurance options at a workshop at the Downtown <br />Eugene Public Library, led by specially trained staff from White Bird Clinic. Choose between sessions on Wednesday, Jan. 7, <br />at 12 p.m. or Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 12 p.m. <br /> <br />Participants will learn the meaning of insurance terminology, the differences between public and private insurance, who <br />qualifies for which kind of plan, what’s covered by various plans, and how to apply. The presentation will cover the Oregon <br />Heath Authority’s free, state health insurance, as well as qualified health plans available for purchase.
