<br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />City Council Meeting <br />Council Chamber—Eugene City Hall <br /> <br /> March 13, 2006 <br /> 7:30 p.m. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Jennifer Solomon, Andrea Ortiz, David Kelly, Gary Papé, George Poling, <br />Chris Pryor, Bonny Bettman. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS ABSENT: Betty Taylor. <br /> <br />Her Honor Mayor Kitty Piercy called the meeting of the Eugene City Council to order. She announced that <br />due the number of people who wished to testify for the public hearings on Resolutions 4861, 1038, and <br />4862, the public hearing for Resolution 4863 approving the Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Project and <br />Priority Plan would be postponed. <br /> <br /> <br />1. CEREMONIAL MATTERS <br /> <br /> - Presentation of Sister City Gift <br /> <br />Tom Bickel, manager of the Kakegawa Education Center of Oregon – a Sister City-owned farm in Junction <br />City - explained that Kakegawa presented a painted manhole cover to the City of Eugene. He read into the <br />record the letter of presentation that accompanied the gift, written by the Mayor of Kakegawa. <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy introduced three visitors from Tokyo, Japan who were in the audience and welcomed them to <br />Eugene. <br /> <br />- Recognition of Eugene Airport Employee Mike Coontz <br /> <br /> <br />Bob Wells, City Manager for the City of Salem, thanked Eugene for lending Airport employee Mike Coontz <br />to the Salem Airport while its airport administrator fulfilled his military duty in Iraq. He reported that <br />Salem Airport Administrator Alan Alexander had returned safely. He introduced a delegation of four people <br />from Salem who had come to honor Mr. Coontz’s service and read a proclamation signed by the Salem <br />Mayor and City Council into the record. <br /> <br />Mayor Piercy said, on behalf of the council and staff, that all were honored to have the delegation from <br />Salem present.
