The purpose was to let
teachers know about the wide range of City resources available to them to add
interest and local content to their lesson plans, as well as to inform them about
activities for children. Examples of these resources include field trips to Skinner
Butte, Delta Ponds and WREN’s west Eugene wetlands - a water quality curricula
- Public Works Day, Community Emergency Response Team trainings for teens,
pedestrian and bicycle safety classes for kids, Outdoor Environmental
Education, and homework help offered by the Eugene Public Library. For a full
description of programs outlined at the presentation, view Teaching Resources.

For more information, contact Stormwater Information Specialist Kathy Eva in
Public Works Administration at 541-682-2739 or kathy.a.eva@ci.eugene.or.us.

Keep New Year’s Resolutions Going Strong – with Commit to Fit!
As January comes to an end, so do the fitness resolutions many people made at the beginning
of the New Year. To help patrons stay on track with their New Year’s fitness resolutions,
Recreation Service’s Aquatic’s program presents Commit to Fit.

Here’s how it works: patrons sign up for Commit to Fit at either Echo Hollow or Sheldon pool
and fitness centers. During February, Aquatics staff will track how often they come to either
pool to work out, lap swim, attend a fitness class, or use the weight room. With every five
visits, participants are entered in a prize-drawing to be held on Feb. 28. The more they work
out, the better their chances and – not coincidentally – the more likely they are to stick to
their resolution to Commit to Fit!

For more information about the Commit to Fit program, call Aquatics Section Manager Rich Fay at 541-682-6336.

Celebrate Asian Cultural Diversity
Bring family, friends, and loved-ones to the two-day Asian cultural heritage festival, the
Oregon Asian Celebration, on Feb. 14 and 15, at the Lane Events Center. Enjoy cultural
performances, music, fine art, children and youth activities, as well as demonstrations of crafts,
cooking, and martial arts.

Celebrate Valentines’ weekend with special activities such as the canoodle-noodle eating
contest and more. Visitors can tempt their taste buds with exotic and traditional cuisine of
different Asian countries, and spend time strolling through the Asian Marketplace for special
souvenirs, trinkets, and keepsakes.

EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 1
January 29, 2015
