Plus, teens can win gift cards in a free raffle
by reviewing books, movies, or music at the Library website; each review is
an entry.

A wide variety of activities for teens at all library locations includes art and
writing workshops, book groups, movies, Dr. Who Club, and a talent show. A local
‘
study done in 2012 identified that Eugene’s Latino community members do not always feel welcome. The City’s Office
of Human Rights & Neighborhood Involvement (HRNI), in
partnership with the University of Oregon Center for Latino/and
Latin American Studies (CLLAS), has been working with staff in
the City’s Parks and Recreation division doing specialized
outreach with the Latino community as part of the Parks &
Recreation System Plan. The plan will guide the development and
operation of Eugene’s parks, trails, recreation facilities and sports
fields for the next 10 years. These outreach efforts will help create
a park and recreation system that is welcoming to everyone in the
community.

Outreach activities were conducted in May and over 350 members
of the Latino community provided input. Common themes and key
findings have been drafted. The final outreach step will be to share what was learned with community leaders, and
others who work with the Latino community, and to collect their input. To this end, a Latinos and Eugene Parks Open
House will be hosted by the City of Eugene Human Rights & Neighborhood Involvement Office on Tuesday, June 30,
from 4 - 6 p.m., in the Sloat Room on the first floor of the Atrium, 99 West 10 Avenue.
th

For more information, contact Human Rights & Neighborhood Involvement staff, Lorna Flormoe, at 541-682-5670 or
lorna.r.flormoe@ci.eugene.or.us.

EUGENE CITY COUNCIL NEWSLETTER PAGE 1
June 25, 2015
