The other finalists for the award were Mountain Rose Herbs and PIVOT Architecture. <br /> <br />The Bold Steps award, re-launched in 2014, recognizes Eugene-based <br />businesses operating with a triple bottom line, balancing the needs of people <br />and the planet with prosperity. The award represents a partnership between <br />the City of Eugene, Mayor Piercy, and BRING’s RE:think program. <br /> <br />Some of Essex General Construction’s triple bottom line efforts include: <br /> <br />In 2002, the company created a scholarship to assist employees in meeting <br /> <br />the cost of post-secondary education for themselves and their children. <br />Employees are also encouraged to become Leadership in Energy and <br />Environmental Design (LEED)-accredited. <br /> <br />The company headquarters is in the process of fulfilling requirements to be <br /> <br />certified as a Trout Friendly Landscape. It will include native plants and edibles <br />such as blueberries and filberts. <br /> <br />Excess construction materials are donated to BRING Recycling and Habitat <br /> <br />for Humanity throughout the year. <br /> <br />Essex commits significant resources toward strategic planning. This allows <br /> <br />them to develop plans to ensure long-range stability and growth. <br /> <br />Essex General Construction will take the Bold Steps trophy back to their place of business to display for one year. For more information, please contact Stephanie Scafa at 541-682-5652. <br /> <br />Streepey Named to League of Oregon Cities Committee <br />Finance Division staff member, Michael Streepey, has been appointed to the League of Oregon Cities (LOC) Finance and <br />Taxation Policy Committee. The LOC’s Finance and Taxation Policy Committee reviews policy decisions and recommends <br />legislative positions and strategies related to: property/income taxation, school finance, local government debt <br />instruments, infrastructure funding, public budgeting, state revenue sharing, and financing economic development. <br /> <br />In 2015, Streepey came to the City of Eugene from Washington, D.C., where he helped track, implement and develop state <br />fiscal policy issues.
