ATTACHMENT A <br /> <br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br /> <br />Eugene City Council <br />Work Session <br />McNutt Room – City Hall <br />777 Pearl Street—Eugene, Oregon <br /> <br /> April 23, 2008 <br /> Noon <br /> <br />COUNCILORS PRESENT: Andrea Ortiz, Chris Pryor, Betty Taylor, Bonny Bettman, Mike Clark, <br />Jennifer Solomon. <br /> <br />COUNCILORS ABSENT: George Poling, Alan Zelenka. <br /> <br />Her Honor Mayor Kitty Piercy called the work session of the Eugene City Council to order. <br /> <br />A. WORK SESSION: <br /> Sustainability Commission Work Plan <br /> <br /> <br />Sustainability Manager, Felicity Fahy, introduced Will Shaver and Tim Laue, the chair and vice-chair of the <br />Sustainability Commission respectively, who would present the work plan. She averred that sustainability would <br />not be achieved by problem-solving in a “linear way,” rather there was a need to look at the system holistically. <br /> <br />Mr. Shaver outlined the Sustainability Work Commission work plan. He related that the commission had met for a <br />number of months and had established its mission statement, bylaws, and a work plan for May 1, 2008, to June 30, <br />2009. He read the mission statement into the record: <br />“The Sustainability Commission works to create a healthy community now and in the future by proposing <br />measurable solutions to pressing environmental, social, and economic concerns to the City of Eugene, its <br />partners, and its people.” <br />He stated that the main focus of the work plan was to tackle topical issues upon which sustainability focused. <br /> <br />Ms. Solomon arrived. <br /> <br />Mr. Shaver said the commission had been considering issues and possible resolutions, including: <br />? <br /> Climate change <br />? <br /> Transportation <br />? <br /> Triple bottom line <br />? <br /> Land use <br />? <br /> Green building <br />? <br /> Sustainable business development <br />? <br /> Food <br />? <br /> Waste <br /> <br />He related that for each item the commission intended to research what had already been done in the community-at- <br />large and within the City. He stated that the commission would partner with non-profits, businesses, and <br />households to determine what they were already doing in terms of sustainability and to find areas to enhance.
