<br />2 =~ 3 <br />OP~LINAn?CE 8773 <br />An ordinance providing for the collection of fines by labor, and declaring <br />an emergency. <br />TF~ CITY OF EUGENE DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLO~'.S: <br />Section 1. ti'r'hen any person shall be convicted of any offense under the <br />laws of the City of Eugene, and shall be adjudged to pay a fine and costs, and <br />shall fail to pay said fine and costs, the City Fecorder may collect said fine by <br />sentencing such person so fined to labor on the streets of the City of Eugene or <br />on other public works of the City of Eugene, one day for each ;2.00 of such fine <br />unpaid. <br />Section 2. Such persons so fined and sentenced to labor shall be under the <br />charge and supervision of the Chief of Police and the Police Department of the <br />City of Eugene. <br />Section 3. ti~Vhereas, the City of Eugene at this time has been arresting <br />many persons who are unable to pay their fines and costs, and it is necessary <br />to place said individuals at labor imrr~ediately, an emergency is hereby declared <br />to exist and it is hereby declared to be necessary for the immediate preservation <br />df the peace, health and safety of the City of Eugene that this or@inance take <br />effect immediately upon its passage by the Cotr~mon Council and its approval by <br />tree ~~ayor and it is so ordered. <br />Passed by the Common Council <br />this 12th day of July, 1943. <br />Approved by the Mayor <br />this 15th day of July, 11943. <br />~ /s/ John Fields <br />II Recorder Pro Tem <br />/s/ Elisha Large <br />PJlayor <br /> <br />i <br />i <br />i <br />
