<br />OM <br /> <br />FFICE OF THE AYOR <br />City of Eugene Oregon <br />? <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br /> <br />Whereas, <br />Harry and Bertha Holt simply wanted to help children in desperate <br /> <br /> need and in doing so eventually adopted eight children; and <br /> <br />Whereas, <br />Their compassion and caring for these and other orphans led them <br /> to establish Holt International Agency in 1956; and <br /> <br />Whereas, <br />The mission, objectives and work of Holt International has and is <br /> driven by what is best for children and by upholding the ethics and <br /> devoted practices of Harry and Bertha Holt; and <br /> <br />Whereas, <br />Today, 50 years later, Holt International continues to find families <br /> for children and is the largest adoption agency in the United States, <br /> having united nearly 40,000 children with adoptive families; and <br /> <br />Whereas, <br />th <br />Holt International will mark its 50 anniversary by holding a <br /> conference in Eugene, Oregon on October 18 – 21, 2006 to <br /> develop bold and courageous initiatives on behalf of the world’s <br /> homeless and vulnerable children. <br /> <br /> <br />Now, therefore, <br />I, Kitty Piercy, Mayor of the City of Eugene, do herebyproclaim <br /> <br /> the month of October 2006 to be <br /> <br /> <br />Holt International Month <br /> <br />and encourage all residents of this community to recognize the contributions of Holt <br />International during the past fifty years and its efforts to end the global problem of <br />homeless children. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />________________________________ <br />Kitty Piercy, Mayor <br />th <br />Dated this 9 day of October 2006 <br />
