15~ I Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon. Januar y 28, 1929. . Council met pursuant to adjournmen t of January 14,' 1929, and was called to order by Mayor H.E.' Wilder~ There were present all members of the Council except Washburne. The Finance Committee recommended that the Bond of the' National Surety Co. for Fred. Wentworth, Treasurer, by approved. On motion such recommendation was duly adopted. The requa st of Pastmaster D. E. Yoran for the. privilege. of at.taching mail boxes to lamp posts at the following points, \X;. !~l~ ~ ~ T-. 7th and Oli.ve, 8th and Olive, 9 th and Olive, 7 th and Oak, 8th and Pearl, 9th and. Pearl, and. concrete posts for mail boxes at the following points: 10th and Oliwe, 10th and Oak, 17th and Orchard, 22nd and Onyx, 23rd. and. Alde 1', 17th and. Hilyard, 19 th and Willame tte , 17th and. Jefferson, 4th and Polk, 6th and Almaden, 1st and Adams, 2nd and Van Buren, 14th and University, 11th and Pearl. was, on motion of' the Street Committee, granted. I The Street Committee reported favorably on the petition for the bridge over the Amazon on Waspington Street, and the City Engineer was directed to . proceed with the making of plans an9. specifications. . On 1i"ecommendation of the Street Committee, the City Eng.ineer was authorized to-take' up with the Oregon Electric Railway Co., the matter of filling fun on the pavement with a black top surface to bring'up the low places in the pavement from Blair Street West. On motion of the Fire & Water Comfnittee, it was ordered that the extra men of the Fire Department be discontinued on February 1, 1929. .... The Fire & Water Committee also recommended that the City draw pay checks to :b'ire Chief Nusbaum for monthly salary, with the understanding' that he snall return to the City the compensation which he is to receive from the State Indus- trial Accident Commission. ::;)uch recommendation was approved. ~he Fire & Water Committee also recommended that inasmuch as it appears necessary to secure locations on private :property to provide suitable location for hydrant s in Sunset Terrace Additi on, that the property owners be required to gi ve easement deeds to the Ci ty for sufficien t space before the hydrants are in- st.alled. Such rec ommendat ion was ado pt ed. The Health Committee reported that they had employed a plumber to repair a leak at the Rest Cottage. The Sewer Comilli ttee recommended that the peti tion for a sewer on Washing- ton Street from 22nd to 23rd Avenues be denied. Such recommendation was, on motion, adopted. I The Police Committee. reported that 56 stop signs, estimated cost at $70.00, various parking signs, estimated cost at $450.00 pa~ing buttons, etc., would be nece ssary and that such items be purcha sed and installe d. Moti on was made, seconded, and carried to adopt the report.
