Meeting called to <br />order by the Rfuyor. <br /> <br />;,...M <br />~~ <br />~ !:" <br />~.~ <br /> <br />Bids for the P~ving of <br />between Oak and Pearl Stree ts <br />Oscar Snow <br />Stien Bros. <br />Hargreaves & Lindsay <br />Chairman L~nb of the Street <br />Snow in accordance with his <br /> <br />the alleys between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues and <br />were opened and read as follows: <br />$2,569.85 <br />2,766.25 <br />2 , 666 . 55 <br />Committee moved that the contract be awarded to Oscar <br />bid, and the motion was seconded and carried. <br /> <br />A 1~. J. L. LeMaster of Corvallis, appearing for three students who desired <br />to open a Tom Thurhq Golf Course, asked what wouid' be the atti tude of operating <br />on Sundays. He was advised that the Sunday Ordinance prohibited Sunday amusements <br />of this character. <br /> <br />1~. Worden from the Federal Prohibition Office asked the council to revoke <br />the license of the Robt. E. Lee Taxi Company. Some di fferent angle s of the si tua- <br />tion was discussed, and no action was tillcen. <br /> <br />The matter of the adjustment of claim of the Western Oregon Conference <br />Association of Seventh Day Adventists for damages on account of taking a portion <br />of Lot 11, Block 2, in Fainnount Heights for the improving of Columbia Street <br />was discussed on report of the Judiciary Committee, but no final action taken. <br /> <br />Chairman Large of the finance committee recommended in the matter of the <br />claim of Laura Traschel for damages that if she will file a complete release and <br />exoneration of the City, that the City will give her $50.00 in full settlement. <br />Motion was made, seconded, and carried to adopt the recommendation. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Chairman L~nb of the Street Committee reported the purchase of a ford <br />coupe for the City Engineer at a price of $664.50. On motion the action of the <br />street committee was approved. <br /> <br />Chairrlliill Hendershott of the Fire and Water Committee asked the instruction <br />of the cow1cil in regard to the fire department answering outside calls. It was <br />the consensus of opinion that the City fire apparatus should not be sent out of <br />the city except in cases of great emergency and general conflagration, and that <br />the Chief of the fire department should use careful jUdgment as to the necessity <br />or advisability of ma}cing outside fire calls and that little good could be accomp- <br />lished by remote trips to isolated fires. It was also recommended that the fire <br />chief curtail the use of fire apparatuses in miscellaneous parades and advertising <br />s tun t s. <br /> <br />" <br />Chairman Hendershott also reco~nended installation of a street light at the <br />alley intersection between 8th and Broadway and High and Mill Streets. <br /> <br />Chairman Monroe of the Police Co@nittee stated that the chief was in need <br />of an automobile and suggested for the councils consideration the purchase of a <br />second hand car, and the chief was advised to get further prices on other second <br />hand cars and report back to the council. <br /> <br />Mr. Monroe al so reported the im tallation of "C:a:ution" and "Slow" signs at <br />the intersection of Sixth and Polk Streets. <br /> <br />I t was ordered that the Chi ef of Police purchase for the police and fire <br />departments one dozen books on first aid training. <br /> <br />A request of the Oregon Electric Railroad Company for permission to make <br />repairs to their tracks between Blalr Blvd. and Almaden Street in the manner <br />suggested by their letter as a temperary repair was referred to the street <br />committee and city engineer. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The offer of the Sch~ol District No. Four to pay $69.92, being the princi- <br />pal of a sewer assessment against Lot 10, Bloc}c 3, Shaw's Second Addition, pro- <br />vided that the City would remit the accrued interest from November 17, 1904, was <br />. referred to the finance committee. <br /> <br />A communication from the State Board of Health regarding sewage disposal <br />was referred to the City Engineer. <br /> <br />A communication from the City Planning Commission asking the council to <br />submit all street vacations for its approval before the vacation takes place was <br />read and filed. <br /> <br />A letter from Clyde Huntley, advising the Recorder that the Internal <br />Revenue Department had requested the bure811 to provide a rental of $10.00 per <br /> <br />~ <br />
