M., November 10, 1930. Council was oalled to order by Mayor H. ~l <br /> E. Wilder, with all Counoi~en present except Washburne and Monroe. <br /> Minutes ,of the regular meeting of October 13, 1930, and of the adjourned <br /> meeting of Oot ober 27, 1930, were read and approved. <br /> Bids were reoeived for the construction ofooncrete sid~walks as follows: <br /> Ordinanoe No. 7835 <br /> L. H. Holeman $50.40 <br /> Peter A.Nelson 47.25 <br /> Glenwood Sand & Gravel Co. 42.21 <br /> . Ordinanoe No. 7870 <br /> L. H. Holeman $46.08 <br /> Peter A.Nelson 43.20 <br /> Glenwood Sand & Gravel Co. 41.47 <br /> Ordinance No. 7871 <br /> $44 ~ 80 / <br /> L. H. Holeman <br /> Peter A.Nelson 42.00 <br /> Glenwood Sand & Gravel Co. 40~32 <br /> After due oonsideration of the bids, the Street Committee reoommended that the <br /> bid of Glenwood Sand & .Gravel Co. be rejeoted, and that the oontraot for the <br /> oonstruction of said walks be awarded to Peter A. Nelson in aooordance with his <br /> bid as above set forth. On motion recommendation was adopted. <br /> The Finance Oommittee by Chairman Large recommended that the claim of <br /> I Laura Trachsel for personal injury sustained by falling on City sidewalk be <br /> settled by the City for $1000.00, and that the warrant issued to Fred E. Smith, <br /> Attorney for Laura Trachsel, by the City Recorder under oral instruotion of major- <br /> ity of Counoil on the 22nd day of October, be and the same is hereby ratified, <br /> approved, and confirmed. The ayes and nays were oalled, all present voting aye, <br /> nay, none, absent Washburne and Monroe. <br /> The Finanoe Committee also reoommended that the City of Eugene purohase <br /> for Sinking Funds $4,000 City of Eugene Sewer Bonds, due September 1st, 1942, <br /> and $6,000 General Refunding Bonds of the City of Eugene on a basis to yield about <br /> 4.40 per oent of interes~, Motion was made and seconded to adopt the recommenda- <br /> tion and authorize the Treasurer to purohase said bonds. The ayes and nays were <br /> called, ~ll present voting aye, nay, none, absent Washburne and Monroe; <br /> Chairman Zumwalt of the Health Committee reported that they were going <br /> ahead with the efforts to olear up the unhealthful and filthy oonditions in the <br /> . blook bounded by 7th and 8th Avenues and Olive and Charneltonstreets. <br /> Chairman Large of the Finanoe Committee recommended that a warrant be <br /> drawn in payment of the Engineer's estimate of Eugene Sand and Gravel Company for <br /> the improvement of Indiana Avenue from Columbia Street to Van Ness Street for the <br /> sum of $792.10. Motion was made and seoonded that said estimate be allowed. The <br /> ayes and nays were oalled, all present voting aye, nay, none, absent Washburne <br /> and Monroe.- <br /> The Judiciary Committee and City Attorney reported to the Council that <br /> .they had advised the Eugene Recreation Company that the Counoil oannot grant any <br /> request for Sund~ operation for their plaoe of business, and that their remedy <br /> was in an,appeal to the eleotorate. <br /> Said oommittee also reoommended in the matter of the lease between the <br /> Hobi Airways Company and Standard Oil _Co. that they do not sign the lease and <br /> instruoted the Recorder to return the same to the Standard Oil Co. with such in~ <br /> I formation. On motion the reoommendation was adopted. <br /> Said Committee also reported back a recommendation that the petition of <br /> the Fruit and Vegetable Dealers for a wholesale license involved some diffioult <br /> legal questions and reoommended that the' petition be referred to the Merchants <br /> Assooiation of the City tor consideration, and that the Assooiation seoure their <br /> oW.l!l legal advioe as t;o the manner in whioh they wish the ordinance pre~ared. <br /> Mayor Wilder named the following persons to serve on the budget oommi ttee <br /> in the preparation of the budget of 1931: A. A. Rogers, A. R. Tiffany, H. L. <br /> Edmunds, ~m. Tugman, Frank Jenkins. H. C. Farley, Paul Green, Mrs. Otto Horton, <br /> .j'~, and J. R. MoKy. <br /> ~ <br /> "--- - <br />
