Jackson <br /> was read. <br /> The Business and Professional Women's Club asked that the Council approve <br /> appliQation to the S.E.R.A. for labor to be furnished in the construction, of a fire <br /> place and terracing on the North side of Skinner's Butte; and also application to <br /> the S.E.R.A. for a permanent caretaker during the summer months to look after the <br /> property of the Women's Club, for the comfort and convenience of the people, and <br /> on motion duly seconded and carried these requests were granted. <br />e' A committee consisting of Councilmen Hendershott and Bond, and Recorder <br /> Bryson was appointed to investigate the possibility or desirability of purchasing <br /> the Misfeldt property in Skinner's Butte Park. <br /> Chairman Bond of the Fire and Water Committee recommended that the City <br /> purchase for the Fire Department eight 6" and four 4lf valves, and on moti on <br /> seconded and carried the Recorder was instructed to make said purchases. <br /> Councilman Bond also reported that with the approval of the Police Committee <br /> they had purchased a Plymouth 2-door sedan at a price of $702.00, from the Brown <br /> Ivlotor Company; that they had received credit by turning in the wrecked Chevrolet <br /> for $275.00, and the balance of the purchase price was $427.00, and moved that the <br /> Rec~rder issue a warrant in favor of the Brown Motor Company for the difference <br /> of $427.00j Motion was seconded and the ayes and nays were called. Councilmen <br /> voting aye 8, nay none, absent none. <br /> Chail'man Zumwalt of the Health Committee, l'ecommended to the Council that <br /> they take steps to condemn the building at 526 Willamette Street. On motion <br />I seconded and carried the Council directed that ste:ps be taken t.o condemn this <br /> building. <br /> Councilman Zumwalt was also directed to take up with Mrs. McMurphey the <br /> ma t ter of condemning the old woode.n b,uilding on the Sou th side of 8th Ave. We st <br /> between Charnelton and Lincoln Streets. <br /> Dr. Simon of the Police Committee recommended to the Council the approval <br /> of applications for beer license of teon C. Bowman, 128 East 11th Ave., and H. B. <br /> Yount, ,845 Willoolette Street, stating that these were continuations of business <br /> which had been formerly licensed and which had changed hands. Mo ti on was made, <br /> sedpnded and carried that the Council recornmend the granting of these licenses. <br /> A petition signed by Laura J. Reynolds and others asking the Council to ( <br /> provide a suitable smoke control ordinance, was read and no action taken. <br />. c On motion duly seconded and carried the ~yor and Recorder were authorized <br /> to ~xecute on behalf. of the city the contract and agreement with the Eugene Fruit <br />,e' Gl'o~el"s Association for the purpose of connecting the cannery with the city sewer. <br /> The Council directed Ci ty Engineer Clubb to l'enew the ap'plication of the City <br /> to the State Highway Commission for the resul'facing of West Sixth Avenue, whtbh <br /> was fonnerly approved along with the widening and resul'facing project of East <br /> -Broadwa.y and Franklin S tree t , but which was abandoned for lact of funds at that <br /> time. <br /> Councilman Bond called attention to the run-down condition of the little <br /> cottage at the airport, and the Recorder was ~nstructed to write Ml'.
