',.~~ <br /> -:""1 <br /> Council met in regular monthly session at 7:30 o'clock P. M. and was .r, <br /> called to order by Mayor Large, with all Councilmen present except Councilmen <br /> Simon, Reid and Zumwalt. <br /> t~. Tracy Stocker and Mr. Seymour again presented the request of <br /> Seymour's Cafe to extend a neon sign beyond the curb line on Willamette Street. <br /> Councilmen Bond and Lamb voiced their opinion that it would be a dangerous <br /> precedent, and Mr. Bond moved the req,uest be referred to the Board of Appeals. <br /> Motion was seconded and carried. <br /> Western Box Company excepted to the ruling of the Building Inspector <br /> that in construction of their building at West 1st Street and City Limits <br />.- concrete pilasters are req,uired at 12 foot intervals, and this was referred to <br /> the Board of Appeals. The Box Company also re~uested fire hydrant protection <br /> and this was referred to the Fire and Water Committee. <br /> On request of Councilman Bond the Fire Department was authorized to <br /> spend $10.00 for decorations for Pageant float. <br /> - <br /> The Park Board by Councilman Harris, asked the Council to authorize the <br /> extension of water pipe to the outdoor fireplace now under construction, and <br /> the provision of a light and switch at this point. It was so orde red. <br /> On recommendation of the Police Committee by Mr. Bond, the employment of <br /> extra police patrol durine the Pageant was on motion granted. At the suggestion <br /> of Mr. Bond, the Council also voted to request local car owners to leave their <br /> cars at home on the days of the Pageant parades, giving better parking facilities <br /> for visitors. <br /> On favorable report of the Police Committee, the Council voted its approva <br />I of the application of Earl Gibson for a Beer lic~nse. <br /> The Finance Committee by Chairman Hendershott reported and ~oved to allow <br /> bills of Southern Pacific Company $42.17for tunnel .i,nspection at Franklin street <br /> sewer, and Rensselaer Valve Company for gate valves, ~213.37, motion was seconded <br /> and ayes and nays called, voting aye 6, including 1~. Reid who appeared at this <br /> time, nay none, absent Simon and Zumwalt. <br /> The Recorder reported 1~. Knutsen unable to complete purchase of Lot 3, <br /> Block 6, Driverton Addition. <br /> Public Library report for July filed. <br /> Notice of Pacific Coast Building Conference read and filed. <br /> Complaint of the Cashman Realty Office that noisy operation of an ice <br /> machine disturbs inmates of the Rosaria Hotel was read. The Building Inspector <br /> was directed to take up with the Eugene Packing Company and see if the machinery <br />.- can be repaired to prevent the nuisance. <br /> Reports of the City Attorney, Chairman of Health Committee, Chief of <br /> Police, Fire Chief and Building Inspector were read indicating that the building <br /> situated at 526 Willamette Street is unsanitary, a fire hazard, dilapidated and <br /> dangerous. The following resolution was read and on motion adopted: <br /> RESOLUTION <br /> VJhe re as, there has bean ~resented to the Common Council of the City of <br /> Eugene, reports from the Chief of Police, the City Attorney, the Chairman of the <br /> Health Co@nittee, the Chief of the Fire Department, and the Building Inspector <br /> of the City of Eugene, each and all denouncing the buildincs on that certain <br />I premises designated as 526 Willamette Street in Eugene, as dangerous buildings <br /> as defined in Ordinance No. 8292, and recommending to the Common Council that <br /> the same be dismantled, and <br /> Whereas, complaints have been made regarding said buildings by a large <br /> number of residents living around and near said buildings, <br />. <br /> .... <br />
