<br />r 346 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />J <br />; C,i~ <br />~ ~-"-J <br />7-~ <br /> <br />"'" <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the Common Council of <br />the City of Eugene, that it hereby endorses any official <br />action taken by the authorities of the University of Oregon, <br />either for or against the sale of beer wit~in th~ University <br />District, and ~he Re~order is hereby directed to forward all <br />pending applications, otherwise satisfactory, for license in <br />said area to the Oregon State Liquor Commission with a copy <br />of this r~solution, and to forward a copy of the Resolution <br />to the management of the University of Oregon. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Upon motion the ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye, Lamb, <br />Hendershott, Bond and Carlson. Nay, Reid, Simon, Zumwalt, and Harris. The Mayor <br />voted aye, declaring the Resolution passed. <br /> <br />Professor DeCou spoke on the Park situation in the City and read a letter <br />from the Park Board and Park Improvement Committee, and Councilman Bond was asked <br />for his report. Mr. Bond asked for two weeks additional time for further investi- <br />gation. This time was granted. . <br /> <br />The Judiciary Committee by Chairman Harris, reported on their meeting with the <br />Water Board and State Industrial Accident Commissioner on the proposition of <br />I compensation rates, and recommended that the City do whatever the Water Board <br />wishes. This recommendation was adopted by the Council. <br /> <br />The Judiciary Committee also recommended that the Auctioneer's Ordinance be <br />amended to reduce the annual license fee for auction houses from $100.00 to $60.00. <br /> <br />The Judtciary Committee introduced the subject. of a letter that they had <br />received from Mr. John Fields, assistant Recorder and Treasurer, concerning the <br />, condition of the City's Lien Docket records. After considerable discussion the <br />Mayor appointed the Judiciary Committee, City Attorney, and City Recorder to bring <br />I in a report as to what should be done on this subject. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee, by Chairman Hendershott, at th~-request of the <br />'Recorder, moved that the $1,757.66 paid to Lane County to cover taxes on certain <br />pieces of property for the protection thereof, be drawn from the Emergency Fund <br />of the B~dget for 1935. The motion was seconded and carried. <br /> <br />~he F~re and Water Committee, by 9hairman Bond, bmught up the subject of <br />needing fire hydrants and valves to complete work being done by the City Water <br />Board, and after considerable discussion it was determined by the Council upon <br />motion made, seconded and carried, that the money for these hydrants and valves <br />should come trom the following items of the Fire ~epartment Bud~et: Hydrants, <br />Hose, and Equipment-Repairs & Renewals. <br /> <br />The Fire and Water Committee reported that additional time is needed for <br />the investigation of the City Hall heating system. <br /> <br />The Health Committee, by Chairman Zumwalt, asked for continuation of time on <br />the investigation of additio~al license fees. <br /> <br />,Councilman Zumwalt introduced Mr. Keller who presented a petition asking that <br />certain pieces of property be condemned, and on motion duly seconded and carried <br />it was so ordered. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The Printing Committee, by Chairman Carlson, stated that they had looked into <br />the purchase price of plat book covers for the Engineer's Office and recommended <br />that the order be granted to the Koke-Chapman Printing Company at the price of <br />$4.95 for each set. This recommendation was adopted by the Council. <br /> <br />The Sewer Committee, by Chairman Reid, brought up the subject of the M. S. <br />Barker property, and after thorough discussion and upon statement of the City <br />Attorney that inasmuch as the city has title to the property it was up to Mr. <br />Barker to secure that title before the Council had any right to act. On motion <br />duly seconded and carried the matter was tabled. <br /> <br />The Police Committee, by'Chairman Simon, presented the application for a new <br />taxi service license to be known as the Terminal Taxi Service, owned by Lester <br />Grove. On motion duly seconded and carried, the Recorder was instructed to issue <br />Mr. Grove a 1935 license. <br /> <br />Chairman Simon recommended the approval of applications for beer licenses <br />that had been previously held up on account of the University zone, as follows: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />~ <br />
