<br /> Reports for the month of June from the Eugene Public Library, Police Depart-
<br /> ment, Fire Department, Engineer, and the May and June report from the Police
<br /> Matron were read and ordered filed.
<br /> A report from the Board of Appeals, concerning the petition of W. D. Bennett
<br /> and others, asking for a reclassification of their district, was read, in VJhich
<br /> they recommended that this petition be referred to the Planning Commission with a
<br /> recommendation that the Industrial Zone be changed. On motion it was so ordered.

<br /> increase the size of his store building at 1704 Moss Street by extending it to the
<br /> Street property line, was read with their recommendation that such request be

<br /> A petition from the Alpha Corpo~ation of Tacoma, Washington, concerning the
<br /> payment of damae;es in the amount of $100.00 on alleged errors made in the
<br /> Treasurer's Office, v'!as presented and referred to the Judiciary Commi ttee to
<br /> report back at the next Couneil meeting.

<br /> and Willamette Street was again brought up, and a letter from the Oregon Insurance
<br /> Rating Bureau was ~ead in which they stated there would be no increase in rates.
<br /> .~ A letter from the Commissioner of Finance of Portland was read, introducing Mr.
<br /> McGirr. Crruncilman Carlson then introdueed Mr. McGirr to the Council, who address-
<br /> ed them on granting him a ~rmit to ereet such a station. Couneilman Hendershott
<br /> pointed out that aLl of the surrounding business men were very much opposed to
<br /> such a permit, and he also pointed out that there was another party interested in
<br /> ereeting a restaurant building on that corner. Mr. Clarenee Wilcox told the
<br /> Council that he had second option on the property, and if Mr. McGirr was not
<br /> granted a permit for the service station he ~ould ~robably lease it. After
<br /> considerable discussion back and forth, Mr. Lamb moved that the McGirr petition
<br /> be denied. Mr. Zumwalt seconded the motion, and after further di~cussion Council-
<br /> Lamb withdrew his motion. CounCilman Harris moved that this be held up until the
<br /> next Council meeting for further consideration. Motion was seconded and carried.
<br /> An Ordinance authorizing and directing the issuance and sale of Refunding
<br /> Bonds to be designated "REFUNDING DiIPROVE11ENT BONDS F", for the purpose of redeem-
<br /> I ing, paying and retiring certain bonds issued pursuant to applications to pay
<br /> assessments in installments, ~hich bonds are redeemable at the option of the City
<br /> of Eugene, and are designated Series A. D., bearing interest at 5i per eent, in
<br /> the principal sum of $194,186.03, and maturing February 15, 1937; and directing
<br /> that said bonds be called for redemption, and declaring an emergency, was read the
<br /> first time and passe~ its second and third readings by title under suspension of
<br /> the rule by the unanimous consent of the Council, and was placed upon its final
<br /> passage. The ayes and nays were called, Councilmen voting aye 8, nay none, absen.t
<br /> none. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8430.
<br /> Councilman Hendershott pointed out that the Smeed Hotel operator had reported
<br /> . to him that he could not get cooperation in keeping the street clear in front of
<br /> his hotel v'Ihere it was set off with the yellow strip. Attorney Calkins pointed
<br /> out that this ~as just a eourtesy and there was no way of enforcing it.
