W <br /> <br /> <br />Minutes of the adjournedmmeeting of the Common Council held at the hour of ~~ <br />7:30 o'clock P. M., August 29th, 1935. Council was called to order by Mayor Lange, -',<, <br />with all Councilmen-present except Reid and .Carlson. <br /> <br />Sealed bide for the sale of $113,000.00 Refunding Improvement Bonds "G", <br />from Hemphill, Fenton & Campbell, was opened and read, and the Finance Committee <br />retired to consider said bid. They returned later with the recommendation that the <br />bid of Hemphill, Fenton & Campbell be accepted. Motion was made and seconded to <br />accept the Finance Committee's recommendation, and the ayes and nays were called. <br />Councilmen voting aye 6, nay none, absent Reid and Oarlson. The bid referred to <br />being set out in full as follows: ~ <br /> <br />" Portland, Oregon <br />.. August 29, 1935. <br /> <br />Oity Oouncil of Eugene, <br />Eugene, <br />Oregon. <br />I <br />Gentlemen: <br /> <br />For the legally issued $113,000. principal amount City of Eugene Refunding <br />Improvement Bonds Series "G", to be dated September 15, 1935, issued in <br />denominations of $1,000. each, $11,000. thereof due September 15, 1936, and <br />$11,000. due on the 15th day of 'September of each succeeding year to and includ- <br />ing September 15, 1944, and $14,000. due September 15, 1945, bonds to bear <br />interest at the rate of 3 3/4 % per annum, interest payable semi-annually on the <br />15th days of March and September of each year, principal and interest payable <br />at the office of the Oity Treasurer in Eugene, Oregon, we will pay $100.031 per <br />$100. par value thereof, plus accrued interest to date of delivery to us, said <br />I bonds to be due. on the above-mentioned dates without right of prior redemption. <br /> <br />We are attaching hereto our certified check in the amount of $2,260.00, <br />representing 2$. of the par value of bonds bid for. This bid is submitted <br />unconditionally, it being understood, however, that we are to receive the final <br />approving opinion of Teal, Winfree, -McOulloch, Shuler & Kelley of Portland. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br />E. AOCEPTED: <br />I <br /> <br />I <br />I n <br /> <br /> <br />Mr. Gordon Wells addressed the Oouncil on the subject of cancellation of <br />interest on assessments against property held by Mr. Harry Gordon. He pointed, <br />out that at the time Mr. Gordon purchased the property the owner, Mrs. Nelson, <br />checked the taxes and assessments, paid.the taxes in full and was assured that <br />all assessments were paid. Mr. Gordon then checked and found the same condition, <br />and purchased the property. He now finds that he has considerable in the way of <br />asseEsments against the property. He is willing and ready to pay the principal <br />of the assessments but prays the. Oouncil for release from the interest. This <br />'I matter was referred to the Finance Oommittee, Oity Engineer and Oity Attorney. <br /> <br />i Oouncilman Lamb, Chairman of the Street Oommittee, reported that they were <br />notified of a very bad condition existing on Woodland Ave., which is a continuation <br />of 15th Avenue East. The property owners served by this avenue wished the same <br />widened and put in better condition. This was referred to the Street Oommittee <br />and Oity Engineer. <br /> <br />Oouncilman Bond, Ohairman of the Fire and Water Oommittee reported that they <br />had received figures on the cost of a fire alarm system, which would amount to <br />$42,800.00 for the equipment.
