City Engineer Clubb stated that there were six or eight 8-inch sewers dumping ~I into one 16-inch sewer which made it impossible to contain all the water. Their request for per- il mission to show a carnival during the horse race at the fair grounds commencing v1 June 17 for a period of three days sponsored by the Veterans was unanimously granted 4 I by members of the council. ~ Request of John Chezem to construct a house on Lot 5, Block 6, Eugene 5 ~ Original Addition was referred to the Judiciary Committee for further consideration. i i I I I ...,,1 I 61 I The minutes of the adjourned meeting of the common council held at the 7:30 o'clock P. M., April 26, 1937, City Hall. Mayor Large called the to order. All councilmen were present except Messrs. Carlson and Hanns. I .: Req~est of the Lane County Court, by Judge Fred Fisk, to nullify the in- terest charges on assessments on sewer between Oak and Pearl ~treets, Mulligan's Donation and Skinner's Donation, Public ~quares, was denied,by the Judiciary Com- mittee and upon motion made, seconded and duly carried, therecoMnendation of the Committee was approved. II 'I An ordinance granting to OREGON-ELECTRIC RAIL~AYCOMPANY, a corporation, I: its successors and assigns, the franchise or right to lay, construct, and maintain I: railway tracks and to operate trains and cars thereover, and to transport passen- I!'!l gers, freight, mail, baggage and express thereon, and to erect, construct, ~aintain, and operate power, telephone and telegraph lines in the city of Eugene, Oregon had .-fl its second reading and was held over for final passage and public hearing at the 7 Ii meeting of i11ay 10, 1937. 11 At the recommendation of the Finance Commi ttee th~ $;245.00 offer of J. J. ~urton, at the request of Councilman Bond, ~as i~alled upon to make any state~ent he wished concerning the Latter vay Saints offer. !piscussion followed. Upon motion made and seconded, it was unanimously approved Ilthat if the Church \liould pay the ci ty of Eugene ~1247 .00 and at the same time agreed i~o pay the county taxes and to secure a deed from Mr. Dorris, the owner, the city JllwoUld. accept th~t amount ,in ~ull payme~t of 511 assessII:ents against tr:e property. in iiquestIon. I :1 ~ I Councilman Hendershott, chairman of the Finance CJIDmittee, recommended rejection of the $1000 offer of the Church of Jesus Christ Jf Latter Day Saints for Lots 3, 4 and 5, Block 1, Dorris ~ddition and made a co'~nter-offer of $1500.00 for the consideration of the Church Committee. The recomme~dation of the Finance Committee upon ffiotion ~ade, seconded and carried was duly a~cepted. The ~inance Committee rejected, the ~462.50 o~fer 8f R. F. Jepsen for Lot 2, Block 1, Gilmore Addition and extended a counter-offer of ~600.00 for the consideration of Mr. Jepsen. Upon motion made and seconded the council unanimously agreed to accept the recommendation of the Committee. . . It was the recomrr:endation of the Finance Committee that the city of Eugene deed the South 7~ feet of the ~est 100 feRt of Lot 8, Block 25, College hill Park Addition at the rate of 14.05 per front foot to Parson and Company. The Mayor and Recorder were instructed to execute the necessary deed. Upon motion made, seconded and carried this recoIT@endation was duly approved. of the School Board, !Latter The Recorder reported that it was the opinion of hustin Dodd, chairman ~chool Board Finance Committee, that if the heat bill for the office of the Eoard in the City Hall was in excess of the rental now being paid by the then he felt the necessity for an increase.
