SChiska, who owns property adjacent to the <br /> Park, is willing to purchase hydrants and install them if no further charges will <br /> accrue. The Recorder was requested to secure information as to the service charges <br /> I for fire protection for the next meeting. mhe matter was held in abeyance until <br /> ;16 that time. <br /> Complaints as to the so-called establishments of woodyards at 18th and <br /> Jefferson; 16th and 17th on Mill; 6th between Olive and Charnelton, were referred <br /> /17 to the Health Committee for investigation. <br /> .' At the recommendation of Councilman Hendershott, Miss Wiltha Trofzner was <br /> granted a period of 90 days in which to remove the barns, adjacent to property <br /> belonging to Mr. Johnson at 267 West 12th, which were ordered condemned by the <br /> council at the meeting of July 12, 1937. The recent death of Miss Trofzner's <br /> ;18 father necessitated this extension of time. <br /> With reference to fire department services without the bound~ries of the <br /> city limits, Councilman Hanns, chairman of the Fire and Water Committee, stated <br /> that he would have a definite report on charges for such runs at the next meeting <br /> /19 I of the council. <br /> I <br /> Upon motion made and seconded, Reverend A. J. Harms was granted special <br /> permission for erection of a garage at 2121 Harris Street, which in its construc- <br /> tion will be closer to the sidewalk than the ordinance now provides by reason of <br /> ,20 the garage having to be cut back into the sloping ground. <br /> I <br /> I Petition protesting construction of a warehouse and the operation of a <br /> fleet of trucks in a residential district, namely that part bounded by Grand Street <br /> on the east Railr.oad Avenue on the south and North Polk Street on the west and <br /> extending northerly to the City limits, was presented. Upon motion made and se- <br /> conded, the Building Inspector was instructed to refrain from granting a permit <br /> for construction of such a warehouse until a report has been received from the <br /> (21 Planning Commission and it was so ordered. <br /> I The request of Mrs. E. C. Hall for waiver of 10% penalty and 10% interest, <br /> and in lieu thereof offers to pay 6% interest on property foreclosed by the city, <br /> known as Lots 9, 12, and 13, Block 1, College Hill Park Addition, was denied by <br /> /22 the council, upon motion made and seconded. <br /> The Recorder reported that the Oregon-Electric Company h~d submitted a <br /> notice accepting the terms and provisions of the franchise enacted by the city of <br /> /23 Eugene. <br /> Councilman Lamb stated that the Postal-Telegraph Company had been notified <br /> of the expiration of their franchise and up until the present time no action had <br /> .. been taken by them to renew their contract. The Recorder was ins true ted to g!3t <br /> details for the next council meeting as to the arrangement between the City and <br /> /24 Western Union and the Postal-Telegraph Company. <br /> I <br /> I The Recorder presented a communication from the Lewis Lumber Company, Pengr , <br /> Oregon, expressing their thanks to the Eugene Fire Department for the able assis- <br /> tance rendered them during their recent fire and asked that a billing be made for <br /> the run. Upon motion made and duly seconded, the Recorder was instructed to bill <br /> all services on outside calls at the rate of $25.00 for the run and $15.00 for each <br /> hour the equipment is in service beyond the first hour. Councilman Hanns was asked <br /> to report to the Recorder all accounts that are delinquent so that steps can be <br /> /25 taken for collection. <br /> Report of the Eugene Publ ic Libnary for. the month of June, 1937 was pre- <br /> 26 sented and ordered filed. <br /> I An ordinance providing for the regulation of circuses, menageries, carnival , <br /> tent shows and other outdoor amusements and entertainments conducted for profit <br /> within the City of Eugeneh providing requirements for license and permit therefor~ <br /> providing a penalty for t e violation tnereof, repealing all ordinances and parts <br /> of ordinances in conflict herewith and declaring an emergency, was read the first, <br /> time and passed to its second and third readings by unanimous consent of the coun- <br /> cil by title under suspension of the rule and was placed for final passage.
