Mayor Large called the meeting to order. Councilmen present were: Lamb, <br />Hendershott, Reid, Page, Hanns, Farrington, Bond, Carlson; absent, none. <br /> <br />~;t': <br />t< , <br />~~ <br /> <br />The first order of business was the appointment of a successor to A.A. Reid, councilman of <br />the second ward, who on January 10, 1938 had submitted his resignation to the council. Upon motion <br />of Councilman Lamb, seconded by Hendershott, Mr. Reid was appointed to succeed himself. This was <br />met with unanimous approval. Councilm,an Reid approached the Recorder's desk and was sworn in to <br />serve until the expiration of his term. <br /> <br />Mayor Large reported to the council tlnt Lane County was preparing another tax foreclosure <br />and thought it advisable for the city of Eugene to have a working program in conjunction with theirs. <br />'3 The matter was placed in the hands of the Judiciary Committee and City Attorney. <br />J <br /> <br />Councilman Lamb, Chairman of the Judiciary Conmlittee, recommended -that the offer of James <br />Rodman, rejected at the last meeting 'of the council, be now accepted on the condition -that in ad- <br />dition to the $2000.00 payment suggested in his letter that he make his regular payment of $1000.00 <br />plus interest on February 24, 1938 as provided under the terms of his original contract. Upon <br />/4 motion made and duly seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was unanimously accepted. <br /> <br />The $400.00 cash offer of B. H. Coffman for property described as "Beginning at a point in <br />the west line of Wladison Street 81 feet south of ihe south line of Broo.dway, running thence south <br />80 feet, thence west 80 feet, thence north 80 feet, thence east 80 feet to the place of beginning, It <br />was denied by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $1100.00 extended. Upon motion made and <br />I 5 duly seconded, the recommendation of the Finance Committee was approved. <br /> <br />The ~~'1300.00 cash offer of Burton B. Hyland for permission to make monthly payments of $10.00 on property <br />known as "Begin 66 feet South of Southwest corner of Lot 6, Block 6, Shelton's Addition to Eugene, <br />run West 174 feet, South 24 feet, East along line of O. and C.R.R. land to a point due South of <br />beginning and North to beginning, in Eugene, Lane County, Oregonll, which he is contemplating pur- <br />chasing from the heirs of J.E. Gray, deceased, was upon motion made and duly seconded, granted by <br />the council. <br /> <br />The $600.00 cash offer of Frank Miner for property located at the North\VBst corner of 15th <br />and Mill Streets and more fully described "Beginning at the Southeast corner of Lot 2, Block 6, <br />Scott's Addition, running thence North along the West line of Mill Street 115 feet, thence West to <br />the West line of Lot 2, thence South 15 feet, thence East 15 feet, thence South 100 feet, thence <br />east to the place of beginning", was rejected by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of <br />$1653.00 extended. Upon motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the Conunittee net with <br />unanimous approval. <br /> <br />Ralph Nissen's second offer of $400.00 cash for Lot 2, Block 1, Cherry Grove Addition, <br />rejected by the Finance Committee and a counter-offer of $907.09 extended for consideration. <br />motion made and seconded, the recommendation of the Conunittee was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />was <br />Upon <br /> <br />The offer of Jens D. Lund calling for cash of $1000.00 or $1200.00 with a cash payment of <br />$600.00 and $10.00 per month on the balance for proper~ described as Lot 6 and the West One-Half <br />of Lot 7, Block 2, Harris Addition, was rejected by t he council and a counter-offer of ~$1800.00 mad . <br />Upon motion made and duly seconded, this recommendation was accepted. <br /> <br />Upon motion made and seconded, the council moved to accept not less than $500.00 for the <br />property on which L.C. DeBurgh and Jack Luckey made an offer of $150.00 on December 13, 1937. <br /> <br />James'F. Eagan's request to make payments of $10.00 per month on a principal amount of $308. <br />and interest of $127.28 in order to acquire title to property known as Lot 8, Block 2, Kelsay's <br />/ 12 First Addition, was upon motion made and duly seconded, accepted by the council. <br /> <br />Upon motion made and duly seconded, the council agreed to make the segregation on Irene A. <br />McCuistion's property located at 264 Washington Street. The south nine feet to be released with <br />the city to receive on the assessments not less than $60.00. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />,13 <br /> <br />/14 <br /> <br />J 15 <br /> <br />The Police and Fire &: Water Com.rnittees were requested to report at the next meeting their <br />views and recommendations 'concerning the sale of fireworks during the Fourth of July celebration. <br /> <br />The Fire and Water Committee recommended that statements be mailed to the following parties <br />to whom services had been rendered by the Eugene Fire Department on out-of-tmv.n calls: Mrs. Mann, <br />1220 Grant Street, $8.00; R. C. Crow, 2650 Willamette, $5.00; Robert SChiska, Hendrick's Fark,$8.00; <br />T.T. Parker, Route #3, $6.00; Florence Morton, 1964 Madison, $5.00. Upon motion made and duly <br />seconded, the recommendation of the Committee was duly accepted. <br /> <br />.... <br />
