Hanns, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee~ <br /> recommended the issuance of bills to the following parties to whom services had <br /> been rendered by the Eugene Fire Department: Charles Baker, Elmira, Oregon, $15; <br /> Dewey McAlpine, River Road, $12.50; Dewey McAlpine, $5.00; Rex Knight, Springfiel , <br /> $7.50; R. Upon motion <br />16 made and duly seconded, this recommendation was unanimously approved. <br />I Councilman Farr ington, Chairman of the Heal th Committee, stated tha <br /> Frank Chambers, had requested additional time for demolition of the Yates Hotel <br /> by reason of the fact that the tenants had not been able to find other living <br /> quarters. Mr. Lamb reported that Mr. Chambers in talking to him, had requested a <br />17 extension of one year. The matter was referred to the Health Committee. <br />I Councilman Page, Chairman of the Park Committee, made the following I <br /> recommendations relative to the proposed WPA project: (1) That the request for a <br /> wading pool be stricken out; (2)- That the lumber salvage from the CCC buildings b <br /> not returned to the WPA but retained for the city's use; (3) That steps be taken <br /> to remove the old wire fence used for the deer and elk pens in Hendrick's Park.. I <br /> was pointed out that any or all materials needed for such projects would be paid <br /> out of the 1939 Park Budget to be provided by the Budget Committee this year. Up n <br /> motion made and seconded, .the Mayor and Recorder were authorized to execute the <br />18 necessary papers, allowing the project and it was so ordered. <br />/ <br /> Mayor' Large remarked that he had rece i ved a communi cat ion from E. J. <br /> Griffith wherein he stated that the city would have to make a formal request to <br /> the WPA for the purpose of removing the old.CCC buildings in Skinner's Butte Park <br /> and retaining the materials therefrom. Communication from Dr. E. L. Davis for a permit to operate a broiler plant <br /> at 1609 Villard Street, was denied by the Board of Appeals and action sustained <br />21 by the council. . I <br />I . . <br /> Request from Glenn O. Graham to convert the upstairs of his house <br /> at 2190 Willamette Street into living quarters, was presented. The Board of Ap- <br /> peals recommended that Mr. Graham be granted a permit to make only interior <br /> changes and the building of a dormer window. Upon motion made and seconded, the <br />22 recommendation of the Board was duly sustained. <br />/ , <br /> Request from Dr. W. E. Moxley asking for a permit to remodel the <br /> hous,e at 1393 Beech Str~et into Apartments, was granted by the Board of Appeal s- I <br />23 and recommendation sustained by the council. <br />I <br /> Communication fro,m Herschel R. Taylor complaining about traffic: <br /> conditions on East 13th from Alder on past University, was presented. In his <br /> communication Mr. Taylor further commented that the city's edict prohibiting <br /> ~rucks from this area we.s being ignored ~l togeth~r. To solve the confronting <br /> problems, it was Mr. Taylor's suggestion that th~ city install troughs or dips <br /> in the street to prevent cars traveling at a high rate of speed and likewise <br /> miriimize the truck traffic.
