Rodman pointed out that prior to the first meeting of January, <br />1939, a broker in his office, ~esented an offer on behalf of Harlow Hudson for Lots <br />3~ 4, 5 and 6, Block 25, College Hill Park Addition. That said offer was refused b <br />the council inasmuch as it did not meet the appraised value of the lot. The client <br />now offers the appraised value of the lots which is $550.00. Mr. Rodman stated that <br />inasmuch as the city had in no way notified the Eugene realtors that these lots are <br />no longer for sale at the price posted by the city, that we should be morally bound <br />to accept the offer at the listed price. Upon motion made and seconded, the council <br />approved the recommendation of the Finance Committee, all voting aye with the ex- <br />ception of Mr. Bond who voted in the negative. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee recommended refunding $20.00 to Dan Pavlik the amount <br />paid by him when he was planning to purchase the property located at 261 Jefferson <br />Street, but because the City was unable to deliver title to the property, the trans- <br />action was cancelled.", <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />(...~.~...., <br /> <br />15 <br />I <br /> <br />16 <br />/ <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Page, Chairman of the Special Committee appointed to investigate <br />the possibility of constructing a swimming pool for the city of Eugene, recommended <br />that the request be tabled and upon motion duly made, seconded, and carried his re- <br />17 commendation was approved. <br />/ <br /> <br />Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee, recommended that the re- <br />quest for a special curb cut at 166 East 11th Avenue for Consumer's Cooperative As- <br />sociation of Lane County, Inc., be denied. Ralph Johnston, on behalf of the Associa- <br />tion, requested that the council reconsider the Police Committee recommendation and <br />grant the permit; upon motion made and seconded, recommendation of the committee was <br />18 approved. <br />I <br /> <br />On the various requests for one-hour parking restrictions, Councilman Bond <br />requested further time by reason of the fact that there was an ordinance being pre- <br />pared that would cover a great deal of area and be more complete than the various <br />individual requests. Time was granted. <br /> <br />S. M. Calkins reported that the city's delinquent assessments against the <br />University of Oregon amounted to $4000 and that a statement had been mailed and <br />legislative act prepared to place the matter before the state legislature. That the <br />University officials have stated that the city can reasonably expect to receive this <br />payment within due course of tlme~ <br /> <br />Mr. Calkins further recommended that the city prOVide adequate protection <br />for members of the fire department by reason of their out-of-town calls. The Mayor suggested that the council approve th <br />amount assessed for dues but hold for further consideration the $100.00 charge, and <br />23 it was so ordered. <br />f <br /> <br />Request of N. C. Christenson for a permit to build three duplex houses and <br />six garages on his property on the north side' of ~ixteenth Avenue between Ferry and, <br />Patterson Streets. was presented., This location is in the R~l district and it is th <br />Board of Appeals' recommendation that the request be denied and action is sustained <br />24 by the council. <br />/ <br /> <br />25 <br />I <br /> <br />Request of William H. Oakes for a permit to build on his lot at 379 Tenth <br />Avenue ~ast waiving the "set-back" ordinance, asking for a six-foot set-back from <br />the sidewalk, was denied by the Board of Appeals. Mr. W. H. Shields speaking on <br />behalf of William H. Oaks requested the council to reconsider the building permit <br />with a change to a 15-foot set back rather than the 6 feet originally requested. The <br />matter was referred to the Board of Appeals. <br /> <br />Request from Fred wentworth for a permit to make some changes, that of a <br />short outside stairway, in his residence at 1571 Pearl in order to make an apartment <br />on the second floor, wa~ granted by the Board of Appeals and action sustained by the <br />council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />26 <br />/ <br /> <br />The $108.19 claim of Dr. A.H.
