F. Hyde for client, Earl B. Houston, $125.00 cash for Lot 1, Block 8, Kincaid Park First Attition <br />3 Upon motion made and seconded the recommendation of the Finance Committee was approved, <br /> <br /> <br />~ The acceptance of the offer of E. H. Peterson for cl iem, H. A. Moore, '~350.00 cash <br />.for the property at the Northwest corner 0 f 8th Avenue and Polk Street was reconnnerrl ed by the Finane <br />4 Corn:.rnittee. Upon motion made and seconded the re commerrl at ion of the Committee was approved. <br /> <br />It/ The offer of W. J. Burke to wreck the house at 1706 Lav~ence Street was, upon the <br />~ recownendation of the Finance Committee, rejected by the Council. Upon motion made an d seconded <br />5 the recornnendation of the Finance Committee was approved. <br /> <br />The acceptance of the offer of Nick M. Derschon to wreck the house at 1706 Lawrence <br />Street, with a paynent of $20.00 for the house and cl eaning upthe house and c3eaning up the lot, <br />was recommended by the Finance Committee. Upon motion made and reconded the recommendation of the <br />. 6 Finance Committee was approved. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />I' <br /> <br />.~ <br /> <br />The offer of T. H. Garrett to redeem a fifty foot strip cf' property 6n Agate Street <br />between 14th and 15th Avenues was recommended by the Finance Committee on the condition that <br />Mr. Garrett pay $452.92 for said property instead of the previous offer of $400.00. The City <br />will give Mr. Garrett a bargain and sale deed and the property will be clear of all encumbrances <br />including payment of taxes. Upon motion made and seconded the rccommendati on of the Finance <br />7 Committee was approved. <br /> <br />The Finance Committee further recommended that the City Recorder be instructed to <br />notify the lien department to cancel the Onyx Street paving assesslD:mts against 'the North two <br />feet of Lot 3, Block 4, Mountain View Park Addition. Upon motion made and second ed the recommenda- <br />tion was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />I <br />j <br />8 <br /> <br />9 <br /> <br />Councilman Page, Chairman of the Parks Committee, stated that Mr. J. F. Reade, represen- <br />ting the Eugene Garden Club. requested permission to make further shrubbery and flower plantings <br />on Skinner Butte Park, stating that the same would be done sometime this fall without expense to <br />the City of Eugene~ provided the City would agree to furnish suita1,}le care for them after they <br />are planted. After a short discussion by members of the council, l~. Page was requested to inform <br />Mr. Reade that the City would be very grateful for the plantings and that they would be given <br />every care. <br /> <br />J1 <br />10 <br /> <br />Councilman Reid, Chairman of the Sewer Committee stated that the Sewer Committee had <br />investigated the Sewer conditions at 246 West 2nd Street and. upon finding them inadequate had <br />ordered sewer connections made. <br /> <br />/ <br />11 <br /> <br />Mr. Reid further stated that Amon and 1<Tennes Additions had been opened up for settlement <br />on South Willa.mette Street just beyond the city limits and the sponsors of th e additions were <br />requesting the city to run the sewer main to the city limits and they would build their own sewer <br />to connect with the city's sewer main. After considera b]e discussion by the Council, l\1r. Reid <br />was requested to inform the interested parties that no sewer connections could be nade with the <br />city's services until the Additions became a part of the City of Eugere. .; <br /> <br />/ <br />12 <br /> <br />Councilman Bond. Chairman of the Police Committee, recommen:led that stop buttons be <br />placed in the alley between 5th and 9th Streets bounded by Willamette and Oak Streets. The buttonEK <br />on the north to be placed about one-half way between the entrance to trB alley and the bus depot. <br />The button on the south to be placed at vma t 'WOuld be th e Junction 0 f crossing a 11eys. Upon motion <br />made and s eco:nd.ed the recommendation was unanimous ly approved. <br /> <br />) <br />13 <br /> <br />At this time Mayor Large recommended that th e City Recorder be instructed by the <br />council to write a letter of commendation to'~he Elks BPOE Lodge of Eugene, Oregon complimenting <br />them in providing such a fine parking lot for their members. Upon motion made and seconded the <br />recommendation was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />u! <br /> <br />t~yor Large reported the accepted resignation of Arthur Mahany, member of the Police <br />Department, and recommended the appointment of P. J. Heise to succeed Mr. ~~hany. Upon motion made <br />and seconded the recommendation of the appointment was unanimously approved. <br /> <br />j <br />15 <br /> <br />Mr. Jacob E. Soric addressed the council asking for permission to extend the wrecking <br />operations of the old Yates Hotel until next spring. After considerable discussion by members <br />of the council, 1~. ,Soric was granted until Oetoberll. 1939 to remove the building. It .vas also <br />adjudged that the tenants should be vacated from the building on or before July I, 1939 and it ~ms <br />so ordered. <br /> <br />J <br />16 <br /> <br />The City Recorder at this time presented the annual report of the Eugene Water Board <br />for the year of 1938. The report was accepted and ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />~ <br />
