Upon motion made and seconded the request <br /> was unanimoualy approved. <br /> City Engineer Clubb reported that in regard to the sewer conditions on <br /> I Clark Avenue, which had been referred to his department at the last council meeting <br /> for investigation, recommended that six inch tile be used instead of four inch tile <br /> and at very little extra cost between the four inch and the six inch. H~ VIO uld <br /> recommend that the166 feet of necessary tile b,e installed and the six inch tile <br /> be' used rather than four in~h and the: Oi ty of Euqene to pay the difference, of four <br /> cents per foot, a total of i6~65. Upon motion made Bnd seconded the city voted to <br /> 19./1 install six inch sewer tile and it was so ordered. <br /> The Mayor and several cou'ncilmen complained about non enforcement of the <br /> bicycle ordinance and upon mot'ion made Bnd seconded the Chief of rolice was instruct d <br /> 20- to see- that his departrr.ent endorce the bicycle ordinance and it was so ordered. <br /> Communication was presented to the council from AI's Transfer Company <br /> asking to have painted a yellow strip for a parking zone at'his place of business <br /> at 30 West Seventh Street. The matter was referred to the Police Committee for <br /> 21 investigation with a request that they report at the next me~ting of the,council. <br /> - <br /> R~quest was presented from the Eugene Playground Commission asking that the <br /> Director of Recreation and Supervisor-At-Large be furnished with gasoline and oil <br /> 22/ from the citylfs s,ervices and they will approve the payment of said bills from the <br /> Playground funds. Upon motion made and s,econded the request was unaniI!iously approve . <br /> Communication was presented from George'hT.. Hall complaining of the <br /> closing of the North end of the alley, which extends from 5th Street to the SF <br /> pr operty , in the back extending East from Charnelton str~et, ~nd asked cooperation <br /> I of the City of Eugene in having this crossing again open to traffic. The matter' <br /> was referred. to the JUdiciary Committee and Ci ty Attorney for investigation and <br /> 23 report. at the next council meeting. <br /> Communicati on was pre'sented from Dr. Alma Cannon Mi 11 er complaining of the <br /> tremendous fire hazar~ property surrounding her residence at 2996 Kincaid Street <br /> ror six city blocks. She stated that there were approximately forty acres and <br /> demanded that the city remove the grass and bruth surrounding her prDperty. The <br /> matter was I'Bferred to the Fire and Water Committee asking that they take ~are of <br /> 24- the same. <br /> Communication'was presented from the Board of Appeals in behalf of George <br /> Chenault for a special permit to erect a portable house, 12f x 24f on the rear of <br /> xhis lot at 1609 W.. 5th Avenue in which to house his parents. As he agrees to compI <br /> with all sanitary regulations, the Board would recommend that this request be <br /> gr'anted. Upon motion made and seconded the recommendation of the Board of ~ppeals <br /> 25 was unanimously approved. <br /> Communication lITas also presented from the Board of Appeals in behalf of <br /> A. L. Williamson stating that he had sold the front eighty feet of his lot at Tenth <br /> and Pearl Streets ~nd asked for a permit to move the resid~nce to within six feet <br /> of his present shop and VIai ve the requirements of "Earagraph E of Section 1602 of <br /> the Building Code'. The Board recommended that this request be granted and upon <br /> motion made and seconded. the recommendation of the. Board of Appeals was unanimous ly <br /> 26--1 appr.oved. <br /> I The Library report for the month of June, 1939, was presented a"nd ordered <br /> placed on file. The Fire Department monthly report for the months of May and June <br /> 2 7 ---- were presented and ordered placed on file. <br /> An application for a second-hand dealers license was presented in behalf <br /> of R. T. Thomas at 875 Olive Street (Service Cleaners). As the application had been <br /> approved by the Chief of Police the council approved the recommendation of the <br /> 2a Ch~~f of Poli~e and upon ffiotion made and seconded the license was granted. <br /> I The City Recorder was instructed to n'ot-ify'Saul Paul that his application <br /> for a second-hand dealers license had been denied. The recorddr was further <br /> instructed to' inform him that the council would hold a hearing on the subject, if <br /> 2g-; it was his desir~, cit the next meeting of the council, August 14. <br /> At this time Mayor Large rBcommended the appointment of Donald Powell as <br /> Assitanzt Sewe~ Tender in the street Department; the appointment to become <br /> effective' July 1, 1939. Upon motion made and seconded the recommendation was <br /> 30 unanimously approved. <br /> The Ordinance to prohibit the sale and use of fir'ecrackers, sky rockets,. <br /> torpedos, bumbs, cap pistols and other similar explosives, or the sale or use of <br /> .... <br />
