This is on an alley at the back end of , <br /> the building. Councilman Hanns also recommended the denial of a request for a <br /> street light on the alley between 16th and 17th and between Alder and Hilyard <br /> treets. The reco~nendations were unanimously approved. Councilman Hanns reported <br /> ~hat his committee had investigated the fire hazard conditions surrounding Schulz <br />I !Motor Company paint shop and it was found that any insurance rate increases <br /> b.djacent thereto were not caused by location of the paint shop because the same <br /> 13~conforms to the building and fire zone specifications. The report was accepted. <br /> Councilman Hanns reported that considerable time had been spent on securing <br /> ~stimates regarding installation of a new furnace in the Fire Department. The <br /> best offer so far for complete installation and piping would cost about $600.00 and <br /> ~t was the recommendation of the Fire and Water Committee that money be expended <br /> ~rom the Emergency Fund to provide for the change. Upon motion made and seconded <br /> FheoCity Recorder was instructed to call for bids, specifications to be submitted <br /> ~y the committee, for the installation of a nevI! furnace ,in the Fire Department and <br /> l't was so ordered. Mr. Banns further reported that remodeling the present furnace <br /> room into a room for th~ fire eq~ipment and the storage of three city cars would cost <br /> an the neighborhood of $1300 to $1400 but he felt that this work could be delayed <br /> ~ntil the city was more certain of funds available and until the installation of <br /> ~he furnace in order to give a better picture as to the exact work needed to be done <br /> 14tnd the space it would require. . <br /> I Councilman Barette brought up the proposition of submitting a~ application <br /> ror a WPA project for the improvement of the walls in the Skinner Butte Park. After <br /> t short discussion the Mayor and City Engineer were instructed to execute necessary <br /> 15~papers in making out the application and it was so ordered. <br /> II Councilman Barette reported that the caretakerts residence at Skinner Butte <br />I Fark needed to be re-roofed and would recommend that it be done before the' rainy <br /> ~eason sets in, funds for the same to be taken from the regular park funds. Motion <br /> l~ ~as made and seconded unanimously approving the recommendation. <br /> l Request was presented from Marie Dean asking permission to connect the <br /> I,ewer line from a cabin adjacent to 1702 West 2nd Street to the City sewer. The <br /> 17~equest was referred to the Sewer Committee. <br /> II Police Co~ittee Chairman Bond s~ated that the Police Committee had held <br /> t meeting and it was their recommendation that meters in the following area be <br /> removed: All meters on West 8th Street from the alley to Olive Street; all meters <br /> ~n West 10th Street from the alley to Olive; all meters located on Olive Street <br /> ~nd all meters located on West Broadway between Olive and Charnelton. Also, the <br /> ~ity Recorder be instructed to inform the meter companies that only the meter heads <br /> ~ill be removed and placed in storage in Eugene in the event a re-installation is <br /> " ' <br /> 18v~esired. The recommendation was unanimously approved. c <br /> II An application for a transfer of Class nBn Liquor license from Albert E. <br /> and Angie R. Green to Joe D. Hale and ~erle Short at East Side Tavern, 47 East 7th <br /> ttreet was recommended by the Police Committee and approved by the Council. A <br /> ~ew application for a Class "cn liquor license was presented fram E. T. and Alice <br /> I. Stewart at the Boulevard Cafe, 1927 Franklin Blvd. " In view of the resolution <br /> previously made that not any new licenses are to be granted, and strictly adhered <br /> to by th~ counci~, it was the recommendation of the committee that,the application 1 <br /> :fue denied. The council approved the recommendation. :Mr. Stewart addressed the counc <br />I 19C~s~ing that his request be granted but the committeets recommendation was upheld. <br /> \ Mayor Large reported that Mrs. Ben Russ~ll had complained abou~ the exc~ssive <br /> smoke and soot coming from Wyattts Service Stat10n and wanted to ~now 1f someth1ng <br /> 2if60uld be done to check it. The request was referred to the Fire and Water Committee. <br /> I Request was received from E. J. Smith, manager of the Coos Bay Rodeo asking <br /> vermission to parade saddle-horses, banners, and public address system through <br /> ~illamette Street on June 29th at about 2:00 otclock p.m. The Recorder was instructe <br />I 21~to inform Mr. Smith that permission was granted as per his request. <br /> Communication was presented from the Pacifid Coast Building Officials <br /> Conference no,tifying the City of the increase in price for.an act~ve Class "A" <br /> ~embership from $10.00 per year to $40.00 per year. The C1ty Eng1neer recommended <br /> I~hat the City retain its membership on the new basis and the council approved <br /> 221the recommendation. <br /> Communicatio~ was presented from Karl L. Shirey stating that he would not <br /> Fe able to accept the city~s counter offer.on the property for which he had made an <br /> 231offer. The communication was ordered placed on file. <br /> Communication was presented from the Board of Appeals stating that a <br /> ~equest was received from H. E. Cully on behalf of Mrs. Elsie C.
