Bond <br />President Pro-Tem <br /> <br />* * * * * * * * * * * * <br /> <br />Council Chambers, Eugene, Oregon <br />February 8, 1941 <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />The council met in special meeting pursuant to the call of Councilman <br />Sam C. Bond, Presidentpro-tem. All councilmen were present with the exception <br />II of Ira O. Stewart. A vacancy existed in the Second Ward because of the recent <br />aeath of Councilman A. A. Reid. <br /> <br />! .. . The meeting was called to order by Councilman Bond who presented Mr. <br />!Earl Drew and Mr. John J. O'Farrell of the W. P. A. Mr. Drew stated the Ilosition <br />pf the W. P. A. in the matter of the improvement and building of the new City of <br />Eugene airport. Mr. Drew pointed out that the federal government was going to build <br />~he airport and that the agency to build it would be determined by a board at <br />Washington~. C. Mr. Drew stated that the government desired to know from the counci <br />rhether or not the council was willing to sponsor a W.P.A~ project for the improve- <br />~ent and completion of this airport. He further pointed out that this in no way <br />~hatsoever was in opposition to the present $250,000.00 grant of CAA. After a <br />hiscussion, participated in by all members of the council and the City Attorney, <br />~ resolution was presented directing the Mayor and City Recorder to sign and deliver <br />lh.ny documents necessary to indicate that the City of Eugene is willing to sponsor <br />~ W.P.A. project for the improvement and completion of the area now owned by the <br />,~ity as an airport site. Motion was made by Councilman Farrington, seconded <br />by Councilman Koppe, and dUly approved, unanimously adopting the resolution and it <br />~as so ordered. The Recorder was then instructed to mail three copies of the <br />resolution to E. J. Griffith, State W.P.A. Administrator, 1201 Bedell Building, <br />Portland and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />R!SOLUTION <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of Eugene that the <br />Mayor and City Recorder be and they are hereby directed to sign and <br />deliver any documents necessary to indicate that the City of Eugene <br />sponsors or is willing to sponsor a W.P.A. project for the improvement and <br />completion of the area of approximately nine hundred acres of land <br />acquired and now owned by the city as an airport site in Sections Five (5) <br />and Six (6), Township Seventeen (17) South of Range Four (4) West: <br />of the Willamette Meridian, Lane County, Ore~on. <br /> <br />Upon motion, the council was herewith adjourned. <br /> <br />C.
