'l <br />.......f.': <br /> <br />2~ <br /> <br />Referring to the last meeting of the council, Councilman Farrington <br />reported upon the special request of Mrs. O. C. Bean for permission to construct a <br />duplex dwelling on the lot being purchased from the city at 16th and Mill Streets, <br />and stated it was again the recommendation of the Finance Committee that the <br />request be granted. Motion was made and seconded unanimously approving the <br />recommendation of the committee. <br /> <br />24\ <br /> <br />Councilman Brownson, Acting Chairman of the Street Committee, referred to <br />the problem of keeping cars off the streets during the night in the down town <br />area so the streets could be properly cleaned and $tated it was the opinion of those <br />concerned (merchants, etc.) that if the newspapers would give proper publicity to <br />the city's efforts in desiring to keep the streets thoroughly cleaned and asked the <br />public's co-operation in seeing that cars would not park on the streets say, after <br />two o'clock in the morning, he felt co-operation would be hadoc and the problem <br />would be solved without additional ordinance requirements. <br /> <br />Councilman Stewart, Chairman of the Fire and Water Committee, reported <br />that upon constructing the new doors for the Fire Department it was necessary to mov <br />the gasoline plli~p and it was,found out that the pump should be replaced. They <br />also had a small tank for gasoline storage which had been in service for approximate y <br />twelve years and it should be replaced. In studying the possibilities of a new <br />pump and tank, he could purchase a good used electric easoline pump from an oil <br />com~any for $40 plus freight and 'a new steel tank for $46 plus freight or the total <br />of ~86.00 plus freight and he felt that this should be done. It was his opinion <br />that the cost of the tank and p~p, and the expenses involved in the installation, <br />should be borne by the departments of the city using the same as to their percentage <br />of use. Upon motion made by Councilman Brownson, seconded by Councilman Hawn, <br />the purchase of this gasoline pump and tank and the payment of the same <br />including installation as above outlined was unanimously approved by the council. <br /> <br />Councilman Stewart stated he requested authority to call for bids for <br />the purchase of a new fire truck covering the following types of trucks: A truck <br />built on standard chassis of 500-gallon pumper capacity; a factory built truck <br />with a 500-gallon pumper capacity and one each of 600, 750, and 1000 gallon-pumper <br />capacity, factory built trucks. The companies to furnish specifications and include <br />in the bids, in addition to the above, all specifications desired by the Chief of <br />the Fire Department. Motion was made and seconded instructing the City Reco~der <br />to advertise a call for bids, said bids to be opened at the council meeting of March <br />10, and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />l <br />25 <br /> <br />28 <br /> <br />Councilman Brownson, Chairman of the Health Committee, reported that the <br />City Health Department and the Health Committee had held meetings and were continuin <br />to hold meetings and it was believed that a final report could be made by March 10, <br />27~ covering the Milk and Meat Department of the City. <br /> <br />Councilman Barette, Chairman of the Printing and Parks Committee, reported <br />that everything was progressing steadily in the parks. The ground was being prepared <br />~or planting lawn seed, pheasant pens were being built and everything was in the <br />2a best of order. <br /> <br />29t <br /> <br />Councilman Barette, Chairman of the Printing and Parks Committee, reported <br />,that Jack Junne had worked for the full month of February in the Park Department <br />and should be included on the February payroll at the budgeted amount of $90.00 <br />put of the Park Department funds. Also, that Mrs. Jack Junne had worked at the' <br />pomfort Station for the first hald of February and was therefore entitled to half <br />pf the bUdgeted allowance for that work, namely $25.00 and he would reco~nend that <br />~he respective salaries by included in the February payroll. Motion was made and <br />seconded instructing the Recorder to comply with this report and it was so ordered. <br /> <br />I Councilman Bond, Chairman of the Police Committee,brought up the question <br />poncerning the installation of traffic lights at 13th and Willamette Streets report- <br />~ng that C & S Electric Shop had stated prices were soaring on this type of equipment <br />~nd it was doubtful whether or not the equipment could be purchased and installed <br />~or the amount budgeted. After a brief discussion, motion was made and seconded <br />I~nstructing the Recorder to call for bids for furnishing the material and installing <br />~he traffic control signals for the four corners of 13th and Willamette Streets, said <br />bids to be opened at the meeting of March 16, and it was So ordered. (note: specifica <br />ltions on file in the City Engineer's off,ice, the same as other lights installed) <br /> <br />I Councilman Barette reported that there were a majority of maple trees <br />an the city that would have to be cut dovm because of their deteriation within the <br />heart of the tree which made them very dangerous. <br /> <br />30' <br /> <br />3~ <br /> <br />.... <br />
