There were two vacant places on the East side and that one meter was
needed as an extra to use when one was out of order. He explained that some loading
zones on Willamette had been discontinued for the time being and that meters were
put in these zones. He said that all the Dual Meters were now in use and he favored
buying Miller Meters to fill in the three that were short. Councilman Hawn asked,
how much difference there was in the upkeep of the two meters and Mr. Farrington
stated that all the meters were now in much better shape than when the City took
, them over and there was not much difference in the upkeep of the two meters.
Councilman Bond stated that he favored buying Miller Meters if they were to be used
I on the East side and Dual Meters if they were to be used on the West side. Mayor
Large said the information that came to him was that the pUblic generally preferred
the Dual Meters. Councilman Farrington explained thet originally he had been more
in favor of the Miller Meters but he now believed the Dual Meters were preferred
generally by the public. A motion was made by Hawn and seconded by Bond that the
purchase of these meters be referred to the proper committee. Motion was carried.
17 Mayor Large referred the Iua tter to the Police Coromi ttee.
Counciiliman Barette reported for the Street Committee and said that he
considered the st~Kets were being kept in good condition but that soon after the ear y
morning cleanipg/ e 'downtown area, the merchants all swept their stores out and,
across the sidewalks into the street. There was a question of how to avoid this.
l ~
