I <br /> ~'~~ <br /> 4~ Councilman Farrington reported regarding the hoods'for parking meters which <br /> were'~"bed:ng s~pplied to contractors whele bui.1ding construction was going on. He <br /> V"l stated the engineer had informed him that the contractorS were not returning these <br /> cn <br /> ....,... hoods and the engineer had notified the contractors that a charge of ten cents per <br /> v. day would be made whenever they were kept out in excess of the time allowed but <br /> that this had not brought the hoods in. Councilman Hawn suggested that a deposit <br /> should be required at the time the hoods were g~ven out. After some discussion <br /> Councilman Hawn_made a motion that a charge of $5.00 be made at the time the hoods <br /> were given out and this $5.00 be refunded- if the hoods were re,turned at the time I <br /> specified in the permit, and if the hoods were not returned-promptly the $~.OO <br /> 15 deposit be forfeited. Motion was seconded by brownson and carried. <br /> Councilman Barette reported regarding the vacation of' 24th Avenue between <br /> Lawrence and Jefferson. He said it was the opinionof the Street Committee that <br /> this request was premature and that it should be denied, and stated he would <br /> 16 make a~motion toothis effect. Motion was seconded by Farrington and carried. <br /> The Fire and Water Committee, the Parks and Sewer .Commi ttee had no reports. <br /> Councilman Bond reported regarding the condition of Harris Street between <br /> 25th and 26th which had been up to the council at a previous meeting; and stated <br /> that the street department had drained the road and he thought the matter now j <br /> 172 would be satisfactory to the parties that made the complaint. <br /> Counc ilman Bond stated tha t Nil'. Chiaramonte had applied to him for a <br /> change of the D. A. Seymour's restaurant beer licenses, but the proper forms had <br /> not been secured and that Mr. Chiaramonte would want to make cherge of the res- <br /> taurant on November 1st. Councilman Bond made a motion that the license be <br /> transferred from D. A. Seymour to Mr. Chiaramonte and that the Recorder be instruc <br /> ted to sign the applications when they were secured. The motion was seconded by <br /> 18 Barette and carried. <br /> At this time, Councilman Farrington steted that it was the Finance Committe 's I <br /> recommendation that the offer of A. H. Auferoth for Lot 5,_Block 5, Cheshire's <br /> Addition on WasHington Street be referred to the Planning Commission and- it was <br /> 19 so ordered. <br /> Councilman Barette stated that he had investigated further regarding a <br /> light in the alley back of the Walling and Almack buildings Which had been referre <br /> to the Fire and Water Committee at the last meeting. He stated that there was no <br /> light at the alley intersection. Councilman Pennington explained that he thought <br /> this light which was.asked for was on private property and the council at the last <br /> meeting had claimed that it should be furnished by the property owners. Councilma <br /> Bond stated he had investigated the situation and there was no light at the alley I <br /> intersection between lOth and 11th and Willamette and Olive. After some discussio <br /> a motion by Pennington, seconded by Bond that a light be placed at the alley <br /> 2W intersection between 10th and 11th and Willamette and Ulive was carraed. <br /> Councilman brownson stated there'was a need at the vity Dump for some 2500 <br /> or 3000 board feet of 3 x 12 planks for a roadway and explained that this would <br /> fix up the raod so that the turkey feathers could be delivered and stated he <br /> wished to maRe a motion that the engineer be authorized to purchase this lwnber, <br /> 211 to pe-~paid out bfthe Emergency Fund. Motion was seconded by Bond and carried. <br /> A petition reqq.esting the City to install a fire hydrant at 24th and Char- <br /> 22 nelton Streets was read and ~eferred to the Fire and V'ater Committee. , <br /> ( <br /> A letter fro~ J. F. Cramer, ~uperintendet of Schools, regarding 13th and I <br /> Olive Streets was reed. Mr. C~amer pointed out that trucks were parked so close <br /> to the crossing that motorists could not see the school children who were trying <br /> to get acrIDSS the street at 13th and asked that safety zones be painted further .. <br /> back from the corner of the' intersection. ~his matter was referred to the Police <br /> 23 Conwittee to work out a solution. <br /> A letter from G. D. MacLaren, chairman of the Board of Education, regarding <br /> an old barn hext to the Vocational 3ch001 at 4th and Madison Streets was read. '1'h <br /> letter stated that the barn was in the rear of 338 Madison Street and was a fire I <br /> hazard to the school-property. A motion by Bond, seconded by Barette that this <br /> matter be referred to the proper committee was carried. Mayor Large explaineq <br /> that this had previously been in the hands of the Health Committee but this time <br /> he would refer it to the ]'ire and Water CO~uittee to report back at the next <br /> 24 council meeting. <br /> A letter from the Board of Appeals was read. There was some discussion abo t <br /> the offer of A. H. Auferoth of 197 Washington Street for Lot 5, bl--ock 5, Cheshire' <br /> Addition. A motion was made by Bond and seco~ded by Hawn that the report of the <br /> Board of Appeals be adopted as to the last three requests, and the offer of A.
