All councilmen were present with the exception of Stewart, Pennington, <br />and Brownson. <br /> <br />~ <br />(~ <br />:;,:l <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Mayor Large and Mayor Large asked <br />Robert Lemon if hehad anything to say to the Council. Mr., Lemon reported that he <br />would have a full report of the audit for the Council at the next meeting. He <br />stat.ed that the delay was caused by a lack of man power and some difficulty in <br />tying up opening balances. ne said that he would like very much to have a <br />meeti~g of the Council on May 22 at 7:30 P.M. and Mr. Lemon said that this would <br />be satisfactory to him. <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />Mr. C. B. Johnson was present and inquired what .had ever become of 'the <br />petition regarding the condition of Second Street at Monroe which had been filed <br />on February 24th. This matter had been referred to the Street Department with <br />power to act and Engineer Clubb stated that an ordinance passed at the last <br />Council meeting would allow them to make proper repairs for this location and <br />stated that the Street Dep8rtment would give it their early attention. This was <br />where the Vial ters-Bushong Lumber Company had been haUling sawdust and blocking <br />the drainage.. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />Mr. Howard Merriam was present and recorwnended the formation of a Eugene <br />Defense Council under the leadership of Mayor Large. He said the Defense Council <br />now operating was for Lane County and that a good mahy in the Defense Council <br />were Eugene men and it was his recommendation that a Eugene Defense Council should <br />be organized. Mayor Large said this recommendation would be considered at a <br />later da tee <br /> <br />:3 <br /> <br />The Judiciary Commi~tee ha~o report. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington reporting for the Finance Committee stated that the <br />bills had be.en audited by two members of the Finance Committee and recommended tha t <br />they be allowed.
