Councilman <br />Farrington stated he did not believe that the members of the Council could meet <br />the Water Board committee on even terms as members of the Council were probably <br />not sufficiently informed to confer with engineers. It was pointed out that <br />the Water Board was asking only that the committee meet members of the water <br />Board and there would be no engineers present. The question was called for and <br />on roll call councilmen voting aye were: Koppe, Farrington, Brownson, Sarette, <br />Hawn, and Davis; councilmen voting no: Stewart; absent: Pennington. The committee <br />appointed by 'Mayor Large were A. U. Farrington, A. L. Hawn, and Ira O. Stewart. <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that a request had been reoeived from. F. K., Davis <br />aSking for permission for the Veteran's Organization to have a parade at 3:00 P.M <br />May 30th, the parade to start from 5th and Willamette, south on Willamette to <br />11th, East on 11th to High, north on High to the Baptist'Churoh where services <br />would be held. Mr. Davis had said Colonel Waller would be in charge of the parade. <br />On'motion made, seoonded, and oarried, this request was granted.", "' ,.' <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />!-..l. <br />.~~; <br />f""', <br />.~,. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The Recorder reported that mDre than sufficient funds to pay interest on <br />all imporvement bonds had already .been credited to the Improvement Bond Interest <br />Fund and asked permission that beginning June 1st, all interest collected as well <br />as the prinmipal accounts be credited to the Improvement Bond Sinking. Fund. <br />The following resolution regarding the suggestion was read and on motion made, <br />seconded, and carried was,adopted. <br />RES 0 L UTI 0 N <br />.., - .- - .- - - - - - <br /> <br />20 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, there has heretqfbre been carried on the books of <br />the City'of Eugene a naccount known as the Improvement Bmnd <br />Interest Fund, and there is at this time in said account <br />sufficient funds to meet all interest on Improvement Bonds, <br />WHEREAS, there are 'still funds to come in to the Improve- <br />ment Bond Interest Fund, <br />Therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL of the City of Eugene, <br />that no further funds shall be placed in the Improvement <br />Bond Interest Fund, but that all funds coming in from. intere$ <br />on future payments shall be applied directly to the Improve- <br />ment Bond Sinking Fund. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />21 <br /> <br />A letter of resignation as a member of the Council was read from John W. <br />I Penningtoh. Mr. Pennington explained that he'had taken a p,osition';with the United <br />States Departmen t of Justice 'and . was now in Washington, D. C. and wolD;d be away <br />from Eugene for some time. ,J(inotion was made. by Browllson and seconded by Koppe <br />that the resignation be aocepted was c.arried. '~Councilman stewart stated he wished <br />to recommend the appointment of Calvin Crumbaker as Councilman from Ward Two to <br />take the place of Mr. Pennington.' He .stated Mr. Crumbaker was a resident of this <br />ward, a heavy property owner, and head of the Business Administration Department <br />at the U~iversity. M;~~9:r ~t~~ stated he b~lieved Mr. Crumbaker wolild be an <br />asset to the Council and "one that the pouncll would be pleased to work wi th and <br />that he was glad to appoint Mr. Crumbaker as Councilman fron Ward Two to take <br />Mr. Pennington's place.
