The ayes and nays were called; councilmen voting aye: <br />!i Farrington, Koppe, Hawn, Crumbaker, and Barette. Those voting no: none; absent: <br />[;Stewart, Brownson, and Davis. The ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8773. <br />1.1 <br />;, Councilman Farrington referred to the franchise of the Telephone Company <br />15 :t which is about to expire, and Mayor Large referred this matter to the Judiciary <br />i: Committee and the City Attorney to prepare an ordinance and report back a t the <br />[I next Council meeting. <br /> <br />l; Councilman Koppe stated he had some complaints regarding a building at 3rd and <br />\; Polk which was being erected as a saw filing plant. It was explained that this <br />16 Ii matter had been before the Board of Appeals and the Board's recommendation that <br />I :/ this building be erected was adopted by the Council at its meeting June 28th. <br />!!Councilman Koppe said if this matter had gone through the regular proceedings there <br />I! was nothing further he could do about it. <br />Iii <br />ii Mayor Large stated some time ago theO. C.D. had presented an inventory of <br />i'i various equipment they might furnish the City of Eugene but nothing had ever come <br />i~ of it, but that during the last week he had received a modified inventory <br />i: in which they were offering, among other things, two pumpers for the Fire Depart- <br />! ment, one a trailor and the other a front mount for a truck.. Mayor Large further <br />~: stated the O.C.D. would want a bond in the sum of $5,000.00 for the safe return 0 <br />I:; this equipment if and whenit was asked for by the government. Councilman Hawn <br />I: stated the cost of furnishing this kind af a bond would only be a minor affair in <br />17 !case we ever had use for these two pieces of equipment. Mr. Clubb stated the <br />'j Street Department did not have a truck tha t they could mount this p1j..mp equipment <br />~! on and lay the truck up for use only in case of fire. It was not qui te clear to <br />;:the members of the Council whether this equipment could be put on a truck and the <br />Ii turck still used for regular street work.
