Mr. Ram~g had stated to ~ <br />! the Recorder the Commission would. like to have a statement from the Council <br />~, 21! regarding this situation. Councilman Hawn and City Attorney Calkins stated _d <br />that they did not beleive this was any matter of the Council and that it ~~ <br />i was the Liquor Control, Commission that should make the ruling. R. Criss, James' L. Haile, <br />22 i: George F. Davis. A motion was made, seconded and carried that this request <br />Ii be granted if the names were okay'd by the Chief of' Police. <br />I ~ ' <br />~ A call for sealed bids for 40 tons of asphalt had been advertised <br />II and the two'bids received'were opened at this time. The'Standard Oil <br />\: Company bid, packed iil wooden barells' ~vas $21.90 per ton, pac~ed in steel <br />: fible barells was $21.15 per ton, f.o.b. Richmond California.' The Shell <br />1~ Oil Company's bid was $23.40, packed in.wooden barells, f.o.b. Martinez, <br />I, California. The Standard Oil Company's bid was $3.90 per ton higher than <br />23 l'~ that purchased in March this year. A motion was made by Barette and seconded <br />r by Hawn and carried that the bid of the Standard Oil Company be'accepted <br />II~ and the wooden barells be ordered if it did not a~pear that the delivery <br />,: in fibre barells would be satisfactory. <br />~, <br />I <br />;' A petition regarding the opening of Fillmore Street between 6th <br />I' and 8th Streets was read. <br /> <br />t: At this time Davis entered the Council Chamber. <br /> <br />\,1 <br />I; It was suggested that i~ the petitioners wished to open this street, <br />!: they should endeavor to see if arrangements could be made with the owners <br />24 Ii: of the property necessary to be - taken for the opening. The matter was left <br />;; in the Street Comrni ttee t shands. <br /> <br />1 Iii Mayor Large stated that the provision for the prohibiting of dogs to <br />; run at larg~ in the'preserit Ordinance would expire on October 1, 1943. and <br />t stated that he beleived the Ordinance should be amend~d requesting the dogs <br />i should be kept up for the full year and not for just the six months as it <br />~; is specified in the Ordinance. Councilman Davis and Barette stated that <br />II they could not see why this a.mendment should be made to the present Ordinance. <br />~,j Councilman Hawn stated he felt the Humane Society was doing a very good job <br />!I and that he thought they would favor the amendment of keeping the dogs up the <br />II '. <br />I year around. After some further discussion Councilman Davis and Barette <br />25 ( stated they would with-draw their objection. An Ordinance amending the <br />I': present dog ordina~ce regulating that dogs should be kept up the year around <br />:: was read the first time and passed to the sedond. and third readinF by unanimous <br />~ consent of the Co~ncil by title under suspension of the rules and was placed <br />;i for final passage. All Councilman present voting Aye. Councilman absent- <br />i! Baker. The Ordinance was declared passed and numbered 8776. <br />1,1 - <br />.
