On motion made, seconded, a nd carried the recommendation of the <br />Finance Committee was adopted. " <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Councilman Davis reporting for the Street Committee, stated that the City <br />had secured light a;:;phalt for making street repairs and that as soon 8S weather <br />permitted, repairs to the streets would be started. <br /> <br />At this time Councilmon Farrington stated tho t Mr. Grant R'; Crakes was <br />present and would be gled to answer any questions the Council wished to ask <br />regarding a proposed chEnge in the handling of'the City Insurance policies. A <br />letter from the Eugene Associatioflof Insurance Agents out linin€:!: a proposal to <br />take over the handling of the city insruance and distribute the premiums among <br />the members of the Association, was read at this time. After some explanation, <br />by Mr. Cr~kes, regarding the Eugene Association of Insurance Agents the matter was <br />referred to the Finance Committee to report back. <br /> <br />Fire and Water Committee no report. <br /> <br />Councilman Baker reporting for the Hea~th Committee read a letter from the <br />Wel'are League in which they ebclosed a check for $1100.00 to be used in the rat <br />control program and Mr~ Baker explained to the Council that it was the intention <br />of the committee to pI'oceed with this rat control program as fast as details could <br />be ,worlced out. That this would be handled under the direction of the County <br />Health Departlu:'nt i;l.nd that Mr. Chaney, a Federal representative, would be available <br />for two or three weeks to help organi7e the work and thc:t his services would be <br />donated. <br /> <br />Mr. Baker explained that there were some irregularities in the resturant <br />ordinance paS/sed January lOth and numbered 8783 and he asked t~la t a new ordinance <br />which h~d been prepared be passed at this time. <br /> <br />At this time the new resturant ordinance had its first reading in detail and <br />was passed to its second and tilird readings by unaminous consent of the Council <br />by title under suspension of the rules and was placed f?r final ~assage. On roll <br />call all Councilmen present voting aye, absent none, and the ordlnance was <br />declared passed and ordered number~~. <br /> <br />At this time CounCilman Balcer brought up the question of the Council action <br />at its .meeting on - Jenu:.i2rv lOth in regard to r$fusing pe_rmissic;lll of the erection <br />of a slgn oy ~he BrlgnveT Homes ~tor~ on a lot on tile North slde of Broadway <br /> <br />~ <br />
