Mr. Paul W. Campbell stated it was his understanding that the rent <br />control in Salem and Bend was by ordinance drawn by the Council and that he has <br />written them for copies of the ordinance and hoped to have them at an early date. <br />A suggestion was made by Councilman Hawn that the Southern Pacific employees <br />file a written request with the City Recorder asking for the rent control program <br />and that the matter would be considered by the Council at the next meeting. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Representatives of the Humane Society were present and Mayor Large asked <br />if they wished to address the Council at this time. Mr. N.B. Zane explained <br />the difficulty that the Humane Society had experience since the changing of the <br />Eog Control program. He stated that the building and grounds now used by the <br />Humane Society were inade~uate for the present need and that if the Humane Societ <br />was to continue ~ith this work they would have to have additional funds andasked <br />that a cowJnittee be appointed to go with the members of the Humane Society and <br />inspect the'present buildings and equipment. He stated the Society would like <br />to continue the work but that it was almost impossible under the present set- <br />up. Mr. Claypool stated that originally this was supposed to be a s~x months <br />job but that action of the Council to continue keeping the dogs up the full year <br />had made the situation much more diggicult. He stated that the present quarters <br />4 were not sanitary and it was not wise to take the better dogs to this place. <br />That if the activities were to be continued by the Humane Society improvement <br />would have to be made. Mr. Frank Hill also was present and stressed the need <br />for additional and better equipment. The Council felt that the Humane Society <br />had made an honest effort in this work and were fayorable to a continuation of <br />the work b the society but were unable to advance any extra money during the <br />fiscal year. Mayor Large said he had numberous complaints regarding the dogs <br />running at large and Mr. Claypool said he realized that this situation did exist <br />Mr. Claypool said that the dog catcher had turned in his resignation but that <br />~they had indused him to continue the work and that he had picked up about 80 <br />dogs in the last month. Councilman Hawn said the Police Committee would be <br />glad to meet with the Humane Society and see if a plan could be worked out to <br />continue the work on the present allotment of funds for the remainder of this <br />fiscal year, the committee to report back at the next Council meeting. <br /> <br />CO~~~TTEE REPORTS: <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />Judiciary Committee-no report. <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington reporting for the Finance COlnmittee reported the <br />property offers as follows: <br /> <br />L.
