Tillman Co. <br /> <br />Street Department - no report <br /> <br />Councilman Stewart reporting for the Fire and Water Committee'stated <br />that the Committee was not ready ,to make a report on the Firestone Fire at <br />this time. He stated that Mr. Bibson of the State Fire Marshall's office was ~n <br />town today and that he and Mr. Nusbaum and Mr. Gibson had looked over the <br />situations. at the Firestone Building and that the state was not ready yet to <br />make ther~ report. ' , <br /> <br />A contract between the City of E,llgene and Bethel ,Fire District for the <br />loan of the 500 gallon pumper trailer which the City had received from the. <br />Oregon State Defense Council was!read at this time. Accompanying the contract <br />was a,$5000.00 bond in favor of the City of Eugene, by the Great American <br />Indemi ty Company through Sigman Fell Insurance Co', ktheir l'ocal agent. ,A <br />motion was made by Farrington adn seco~ded by Stewart an~ ca~ried that the <br />Mayor' and Recorder be authorized to sign this contract with the Bethel Fire <br />DistrIct. <br /> <br />. Health ~ep~rtment - ~o report <br /> <br />Councilman Barette reporting for the Park Department stated that he <br />had talked with the Eugene School Baod and that they were willing to take over <br />Playground activities with the understandini that they would pay th~ bills as <br />., they came due and furnish an itemized account to the. City, showing the amount <br />of e.a.e.h bill, and when this has been checked' by the Finance Commi ttee ~nd, all- <br />owed by the Council,the City to reimburse tpe Scl?-ool ;Soard for the total <br />amount of this itemized bi,ll. A'motion was ~ade by Bare:tte an4 seconded by <br />Farrington and carried. that th1s arrangement, be made with the school board. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />, . <br />Mr. James H~ Walker of the E~stern Lane County Fire Patrol stated tnat <br />the Fire department was referring requests f,or burning p~rmits to the'ir office <br />if they were outside of "the City in the districts t~at were covered by City <br />Fire protection. He stated that their office did not wapt to be responsible <br />for issuing fire permits where the city had contracts for fire protecti9n.and <br />thought that these permits should be issued by the City Fire Department Chief. <br />Councilman Farrington stated that he thought' it was rediculous that the Fire' <br />Chief should refer requests for fire permits' to Mr. Walker's, office when the <br />City had contracts with'the district for fire protection~ After some discussion <br />by the Council the R~corder was authorized to contact the State Fire Marshall <br />and find out if it was necessary for the City Fire Chief to be deputized in <br />order' to 'issue these fire permits. <br /> <br />, Councilman Crumbaker for the Sewer Department reported regarding the <br />bill of Mrs. J. B. Hodson, 231 Lawrence in the sum of $1~~50. He stated that <br />Mrs. Hodson had' incurred bhisexpense while trying to locate sewer trouble on <br />her own property and finally found that the ~ewer defect was a.broken sewer <br />pipe in the street and that the street depar~ment had repaired the.derect of <br />the sewer in the"street. ' Councilman Crumbaker stated that he was not favorable <br />of paying these bills $hat were incurred by lndiviuals on there own property <br />but that after a thorough investigation of this case he was making a recommend- <br />ation that Mr. Hodson be reimbursed in the sum of $13.50. This motion was, <br />seconded by Barette. Councilman Farrington ~aid he did not favor the City <br />paying bills incurred by individuals before having them referred to the Council <br />and Councilman Koppe stated that he thought that it was not right for the City <br />to pay these bills when the work had been, done by indiv~duals on thier own <br />property.
