There ~ <br />was some discussion about the brass couplings and Mll'. Parker representing the f.... <br />~~ <br />Howard Cooper Corp. stated there was a rumor but nothing o.efinite to the effect ",' <br />tha tt:he brass couplings could be obtained at this time. He stated that if brass .... , <br />couplings were available they would be furnished with this hose and that if other <br />houses could furnish the brass couplings he was sure that Howard Cooper Corp, <br />could get them too. A ,motion was made by Stewart and seconded by Davis that , <br />3000 feet of the wax and gum hydroseal treated hose be purchased from the Howard <br />B'ooper ,Corp. at the price of 84i per foot. On vote this motion was carried. <br /> <br />, Councilman Stewart stated that had been need for wood for the Fire Depart- <br />ment and, the Recorder was authorized to call for bids for 50 cords of heaVY! <br />slab wood cut in two foot lengths. This wood to be delivered as needed in quan~.., <br />itity of 2 cords at one time. . ' ! <br /> <br />Councilman Farrington reporting for the Health Department stated 'that he <br />had visited the dump ground and secured from Mr. Hughes estimates of what would <br />be needed in. the next budget and that Mr. Hughes wa's. in need of 3. x 12 planks <br />for the road.' Engineer Clubb stated that, the City had on hand quite a number of <br />4'x 12 planks, but that Mr. Hughes preferred the 3 x 12 on account of the excess <br />weight of the 4" plank but that the 4 x 12 on hand were seasoned and would prob- <br />ably be no heavier than the 3 x 12 green lumber, and the Engineer was instructed <br />to deliver to Mr. Hughes at th~ dump ground the necessary planks. <br />I <br />Park, Sewer and Police - no reports <br /> <br />Councilman Stewart stated that building permits for the new Firestone <br />building should be withheld until further information was received from ~2e <br />Fire Marshall's office. <br /> <br />Departmental reports for the Eugene Public Library and Se~a~e Charges for <br />the month of April were read and ordered placed on file. <br /> <br />A letter from George Miltonberger, president of,Bette~ Homes" Inc., <br />regarding th~,puchase of lots purchaseg onM~rch 8th was read. On March 8th <br />Mr. Miltonberger had made an offer on 16 lots at a price of $7550.00 and had <br />made a cash payment of $2250.00. At this time Mr. Miltonberger was asking that <br />the $2250.00 be applied on 6 lots in block 3"Croners.Addition and stated that <br />the balance of the lots would be paid in full within 30 days. There was some <br />discussion by the Council regarding this situation and a motion was made, secon- <br />ded and carried that the' $2250.00 payment received from Mr. Miltonberger should <br />be applJed on the total purchase price of the 16 lots and not on the 6 lots as <br />Mr. Miltonberger had requested. .. . , <br /> <br />Mr. Hawn stated'that he had promised to get some information about mos- <br />quito control on the Amazon. He stated that he had been mis-informed about the <br />treatment of water for swimming pools. ,That Blue Vitrol was used in SWimming <br />pool water but that it was not primarily for mosquito control and that the matter <br />would have to be studied furt4er. <br /> <br />The Record,er reported that" the Southern Pacific Company had stated that <br />the de~d had been prepared for the City for the tract of land at 25th and Univ- <br />ersitystreets, but that it would be another 2 or 3 weeks before the deed would <br />be ready'for delivery. <br /> <br />The Recorder also reported that a letter of acceptance from the Southern <br />Pacific ~ompanyfor the 4th street franchise had been received. <br /> <br />Councilman Barette entered the Council Chambers. <br /> <br />A letter had been received from the Fire Marshall's office and the State <br />~orestry office regarding the issuance of permits for fir'es in districts outside <br />of the City of Eugene'+imits. This matter was referred back to the Fire and Wate~ <br />committee to report back at the next meeting. . <br />1 . <br /> <br />A letter. from the Lane County Health Department regarding the well water <br />used by the Eu.geneLaundry both for .their laundry use.and"waterfor the apartments <br />in the building was r~aq, and a motion was made by Hawn and seconded by Davis that <br />the Health Department should make a detailed report to the Council. ' <br /> <br />The Recorder '5ta-ted that. he had addressed a letter to the Postal Tele- <br />graph Co., regarding the payment ofa $25.00 franchise tax due for 1944 and 'that <br />a letter. had,~be~n received fromtp:e Weste.rn Union Telegr8:ph C9~pany statingtnat .. <br />the Postal: ~el~graphCo., had been taken over by the Western Union Telegraph Co., <br />and that the Postal Telegraph Co., had been dissolved by certifiacte issued by <br />the. Corporation Commissioner and that no franchise tax liability ,existed. <br /> <br />..... <br />
