<br /> Ii about s'ewer seepage on Elk Drive. Engineer Clubb st?ted there should be a
<br /> 18 r lateral constructed from the m~in swwer up to the houses above Fairmount Blvd.
<br /> 'I It was explained that the cost of construction of the lateral would be assessed
<br /> f to the abutting property. Engineer Clubb was requested to prepare an estimated
<br /> cost of this lateral for the next Council meeting.
<br /> Counciiliman Hawn reporting for the Police Committee stated that a comm-
<br /> II ittee of two members from each of the four service clubs, two members from
<br /> , o the Senior Chamber of Commerce and two members from the Junior Chamber ,of
<br /> , ,Commerce had been appointed-to see what coul~ be done regarding entertainment

<br /> for tae Mexican laborers in the, Eugene area; that the Mexican laborers were
<br /> r willing to finance the work if suitable ~uarters could be secured.
<br /> Mayor Large at this time brought up the question of what was to be done

<br /> I' action be taken by the Council. The Chamber of Commerce had stated that the
<br /> i down-town stores would be closed; dln tij.e afternoon if the information came

<br /> would be closed the fOllowing day. Mayor Large stated that it was his under-
<br /> standing that the State Liquor Store would be ciliosed, but this would leave
<br /> 20 Ii the been parlors and liquor stores open. Mr. Lush had stated they would under
<br /> take to get these places to close but that they would like to have the Council
<br /> !, take some action. Councilman Hawn suggested that the Council pass a resolut-
<br /> 1'1 ion asking the Beer parlors to close, Councilman Bailey thought that if any-

<br /> I, thing was to be done an ordinance should be passed compelling the closing of
<br /> Ii these places. It was pointed out that the plan of the Chamber of Commerce for
<br /> I: the closing of the stores might be all right, but that it would not be satis
<br /> " factory for the closing of the Beer parlors~ That the minute the whistles
<br /> I: blew or the information of -V-Day came that the sale of beer, wime and liquor
<br />I I: should be stopped innediately. A motion was made by Hawn and seconded by
<br /> I, Crumbaker that the following resolution should be adopted by the Council and
<br /> , that the Chief of Police contact all of the Beer parlors in an endeavor to
<br /> I! get their signatures that they would stop the sales of beer and wine as out-
<br />~ l: lined in the resolution. On vote this motion was carried.
