He expl~ined <br /> 18 : that on account of the high bank at the northwest corner of th~s intersection <br /> I that this was a hazardous place. A motion was made, seconded and carried that <br /> I the street department be instructed to place stop 'signs on Onyx on both the <br /> I north and south sides of 22nd. <br /> i <br /> I <br /> I Councilman Bailey called attention to the hidden place of the stop <br /> I <br /> I sign at Hilyard and 19th. He stated that there was a tree in the parking <br /> 19 . just behind the sign and was recommending that the tree should be removed. <br /> This matter was referred to the Parks Committee to report back at the next <br /> Council meeting. <br /> Councilman Hawn also reported there had been a cowplaint about the <br /> .failure to obey the stop sign on the south side of 17th and Caarnelton. He <br /> stated that this was at the corner of the 'high school and failing ~o stop <br /> going north on the intersection created a -hazard. Councilman Hawn stated it <br /> 20 was his recon~endation that a stop sign should also be placed on the north <br /> of 17th at Charnelton making this intersec,tion a stop street for traffic both <br /> north and south bound. On motion made, se'conded and carried the recommend- <br /> ation was adopted and the street department was authorized to place the sign. <br /> . . I <br /> . w. S. Hayden addressed the Oouncil 'at this time and presented' a petitio <br /> which carried the signatures of about 250 ~eople requesting the annexation of <br /> certain territory .west of Eugene. Mr. Hayden explained that this territory <br /> 21 was approximately a half mile east and wes't and extended from the south line <br /> of tae Oregon Electric Railway to 200 feeu south of the old City Airport. That <br /> the west boundary of. the territory to be annexed was ~he section line running <br /> north and south. The description in the 'petition was read by the Recorder <br /> i and after some discussion by the Council a motion was made by Hawn and seconded <br /> by. Bailey that the City Attorney be instructed to prepare the necessary papers <br /> : providing for a special election for the annexation of this territory. The <br /> ordinance and the necessary papers ~o be presented to the Council at the next <br /> meeting on October 23rd.- <br /> . <br /> .
