Receipt of a check in the amount of $726.00 as partial payment on the <br />Ci ty',s share of crops at the Mahlon Sweet Airport buildings, total revenues from <br />~ the a~rport and the Eugene Airpark for the year to date aggregate $2600.00. I <br />,I would, like to mention that the ordinance passed by this Council last September <br />setting up a schedule of occupational taxes and license fees for airpark operation <br />has been widely publicized through municipal channels and we are receiving <br />numerous requests for copies of this ordinance from all parts of the United States. <br /> <br />. The Police Department report' for the month of January shows a further <br />increase in our efforts to reduce traffic hazards on the streets of Eugene. As <br />r a par:t of this program, a new Eugene Safety Council has been organized and it is <br />'I hoped: that the efforts of this group together with increasingly strict enforce- <br />!:: .m.ent yvill make it possible to reduce the accident toll wi thin the City during 1946. <br />r' <br /> <br />.. <br />., <br />I <br /> <br />Steps are being taken by this office ,to dispose of <br />:i supplies purchased during the war emergency. Certain of the <br />:: used ~y our Police and Fire Departments while b.ids have, been <br />I~ local hospitals on the sale of the supplies. <br />I <br />H <br />,I <br /> <br />surplus medical <br />equipment will be <br />solicited from our <br /> <br />Two ballot proposals relative to highway improvement and funds for <br />recreational program'proposals will be formally submitted at this meeting. I <br />should like to take this opportunity to endorse both of these measures and trust <br />'I that :they will be _g~ven serious consideration. <br /> <br />I should like to request permission of the Council to participate in <br />" <br />the p.roposed new administrative council to be comprised of representatives from <br />the cities of Eugene and Springfield, School Di.strict No.4 and County of Lane. <br />It wi~l be the purpose of such a'Council to make detailed studies of the budgets <br />of th,e different taxing jurisdictions wi th the thought 'of correlating our program <br />in or~er that excessive tax burdens can be averted in any given year in the <br />finanCing of various improvement proj ects. It <br /> <br />It wa,s moved by Hawn, seconded by Johnson that the report be received and placed <br />on file and that the recommendations contained therein be adopted by the Common <br />Council. <br /> <br />I <br /> <br />A report from the Office of the City Manager, was submitted and read <br />as follows: <br /> <br />11 ,"At the last regular meeting of the Common Council, your body went on <br />iJ record as favoring the use of City :owned property bounded by Potter and Uni versi ty <br />: betwe.en 23rd and 24th Avenues East for use by the Universi ty of Oregon for tem- <br />porary G. I. housing. A group of students are now negotiating with the Univ.ersity <br />concerning plans to erect 36 Q.uonset type units, on this property, provided t~at <br />i certain ground preparation can be made by the City of Eugene..
