ESTIMATED COST - $914,000.00. <br /> <br />AFTER THOROUGH DISCUSSION OF ALL FOUR OF THESE PLANS AND THE RIGHT-OF-WAY INVOLVED, IT WAS <br />UNANIMOUSLY AGREED BY ALL PRESENT THAT THE BEST PLAN FOR THE CITY AT THIS TIME WOULD BE TO <br />REQUEST THE ARMY ENGINEERS TO INSTALL A RECTANGULAR CONCRETE CHANNEL (PROPOSAL NUMBER 2) WITH <br />FEDERAL FUNDS. IT WAS BROUGHT ouT THAT IF AT ANY FUTURE DATE THE CITY WAS DESIROUS OF COVERING <br />ANY PORTION OF THIS STRUCTURE IT COULD BE DONE; AS IT WAS UNDERSTOOD THAT THE ARMY ENGINEERS <br />WOULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN COVERING THE AMAZON. <br /> <br />. <br />IT WAS MOVED BY HAWN, SECONDED BY WELLS AND PASSED UNANIMOUSLY THAT THE FOLLOWING PLAN <br />OF PERMANENT IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE AMAZO~ BE PRESENTED BY THE CITY MANAGE~ TO THE ARMY ENGINEERS <br />AT THE SCHEDULED HEARING AT 1:30 P.M. JANUARY 24, 1950. <br /> <br />I. THAT THE CITY FURNISH ALL R.D.W. (NOT TO EXCEED 34 FEET FROM E. 22ND TO MADISON; <br />FROM MADISON TO WEST CITY LIMITS - 65 FEET; AND FROM E. 22ND TO SOUTH CITY liMITS - <br />65 FEET) AT NO COST TO THE ARMY ENGINEERS. <br /> <br />2. PERMANENT PLAN OF IMPROVEMENT - FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO PAY COST OF RECTANGULAR <br />CONCRETE CHANNEL FROM 22ND TO MADISON STREET AND OPEN CHANNEL (EARTH) FROM MADISON <br />ViEST TO WEST CITY'IlIMITS AND OPEN CHANNEL SOUTH TO SOUTH CITY liMITS. CITY PAY COST <br />OF BRIDGES, UTILITY REVISION INCLUDING NECESSARY ALTERA!IONS TO STORM AND SANITARY <br />SEWERS PLUS FURNISHING OF R.O.W. AS STIPULATED IN SECTION I. <br /> <br />3~ <br /> <br />THE CITY AGREES FURTHER TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN THE CHANNEL IN ACCORDANCE WITH <br />REGULATIONS SATISFACTORY TO THE WAR DEPARTMENT. <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />THE CITY IN ADDITION AGREES TO HOLD AND SAVE THE UNITED STATES FREE FROM DAMAGE DUE <br />TO THE CONSTRUCTED WORKS. <br /> <br />5. THE COST PARTICIPATION AS OUTLINED IN PARAGRAPH 2 ABOVE IS PREDICATED UPON THE FACT <br />THAT THE AMAZON CREEK DRAINS AN AREA OF OVER 6,235 ACRES_OF WHICH MORE THAN ONE-HALF <br />IS SOUTH AND WEST OF THE CITY ON STEEP SLOPES WITH RAPID FLOOD RUN-OFFS. WE PRESENT <br />. .- <br />THIS AS A FAIR AND EQUITABLE COST APPORTIONMENT AS COMPARED WITH THE TREATMENT OF <br />OTHER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS IN OTHER CITIES IN THE PACIFIC COAST AND NORTHWEST <br />WHERE THE DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE CITIES HAVE LIMITED THE TYPE OF CHANNEL WHICH CAN <br />BE BUILT WITHOUT DEPRIVING USE OF HIGHLY VALUED LAND. <br /> <br />UPON MOTION DULY MADE, SECONDED AND CARRIED, THE MEETING WAS ADJOURNED.
