Mr. 'Chatt moved seconded by Mr. Anderson <br />to negot iate a new lease and that, the lea'seper'iod conform with the City's lease of <br />the Laurelwood property from ,School District Nd. 4. Sacred Heart - The Public Works <br />Department qad previously recommended widening .this alley to '24 feet, taking the acldi- <br />~ional 10 feet from the north ~ide. The ~ddiiional 10 feet ,would be acquired and <br />dedicated by Sacred Heart Hospital in line 'with an agreement, made at the time 12th <br />Avenue was vacated. Dr. Donald B. Slocum, Med'ical Specialties Building, Inc., in- <br />quired concerning the City's intention at this 'time with regard to widening the alley, <br />whether Medical Specialties would have air righ~s ,ov~r the ~idened right~of-way, and ~ <br />how the setback distance would be affected. After', a statement made by Dr. Slocum and <br />discussion by Council members, Mr. Chatt moved second~d by Dr. Purdy to request Sacred <br />Heart to acquire the additional 10 feet for right~of~way on the north side of the <br />alley to allow Medical ~pecialties to build to the ~etback and to allow~ir rights, <br />under conditions approved' by the 'City. Bids Paving Alley 18th to 19th between Kincaid and Harris - A tabulation of bids sub- I <br />mitted on this project 'and opened 'November 16, 1965"was presented, and the Public Works <br />Department recommended awarding the contract to F~ed Stubbert on his low.bid of <br />$3,820.40, but to recon~ider the completion date of March'l, 1966. Mrs. Lauris moved <br />seconded by Mr. Chatt to award the contract to Fred Stubbert and tp negotiate the com- <br />pletion date. Motion carried. <br /> <br />4 7. Exemption from State Fire Safety and Prevention Regulations - The Superintendent of <br />Building 'Inspection and the Fire Marshal recommended approval df an application to <br />the Oregon State Fire Marshal for exemption ,of the City from,certain rules ~~d regula- <br />tions with respect to fire ,safety and prevention and 'bLiilding construction requirements <br />for fire safety. If ,approved, the exemption would effect considerable ,savings in plan <br />checking fe~s leVied 'by the State Fire Marshal's office and elimination of duplication <br />of inspections and confusion caused by conflicting regulations. Snorkel Specifications - The City Manager stated specifications for a 75-foot elevating <br />platform apparatus for the Fire Department had been submitted to several c()mpanies .for <br />suggestions and recommendations. The staff now feels the specifications are ready 'for <br />iss~ance of a bid call. The Council gave approval to proceeding wit~ a bid call. <br /> <br />o . . . <br />6 9. Sign Variance. 17th and Chambers. Wardrobe'Cleaners - ,The 'Sign ~eqLiest~d is ~bout <br />25 square feet to be erected at a 4~o angle from the corner of the building. Safeway Stores~ 1840 East 13th 7 <br />Councilman Hawk stated that in his opinion this store is located in what is considered <br />a "dry zone" around the Univers'ity campus' and established by. th~Oregon Li'qtlor Corttr6l <br />Commission several years ago. Becau~e of ,the store's location, the ~olic~ Depart~ent ~ <br />did not recommend approval. Mr. Chatt moved seconded by Mr. 'Crakes to recommend re- - <br />je~tio~ of the application.
