<br />I) Adjourned meeting of the Common Council of the city of Eugene, Oregon was called to ord~r by His
<br /> Honor Lester E. Anderson at 7:30 p.m. on December 22, 1969, in the Council Chamber. The fo llowing
<br />I Councilmen were present: Mrs. Hayward, Dr. Purdy, Messrs. Teague, and Mohr. and Gribskov.
<br /> Absent: Williams, McDonald and Bea1.
<br />i Minutes of meetings held November 24 and 25 and December 8, 1969 were approved as mailed to Council

<br />II members.
<br />r Proclamation - A proclamation was read naming January 1970 as March of Dimes Month in the City.

<br />Ii Kendall Ford, Variance Request - A letter was read from Kendall Ford requesting a six month
<br />It
<br />II extension of a temporary Variance allowing an office trailer, office building and tent at 1290 Olive
<br /> Street. These will expire within a short time, and Kendall has not started construction at its
<br />II new location. e
<br />I. Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy that Kendall Ford be granted a six month extension for use
<br />I' of tent, trailer and wood frame building at 1290 Olive Street. Motion carried.

<br />II l. Announcement - President Hayward announced to ,the Council a meeting sponsored by the local
<br />~ t committee on National Priorities to be held December 12, 7:30 p.m. at South Eugene High
<br />;1 School.
<br />, II 2. Progress Report, Lane County Auditorium Association - Councilwoman Hayward requested a report
<br />II
<br /> from Lane County Auditorium Association, saying the Council would be interested to know
<br />II what it now involves.
<br />I' Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to receive and file Items l~and 2 of the Committee report. I

<br />II 3. Council Support, Veto 1969 Tax Reform Bill - Councilman Williams suggested a\letter
<br />I, be written to President Nixon pledging Council support of a possible veto of the 1969
<br />II Tax Reform Bill. He said the Council position should be made contingent on whether the
<br />II bill would decrease financial flexibility of the federal government and result in less
<br /> money being distributed to local communities.

<br />Ii After some discussion, Mr. Williams moved seconded by Mr. Gribskov to direct a letter
<br />I to President Nixon indicating that, if the 1969 Tax Reform Act would decrease the
<br />I financial flexibility of the federal government and result in less money being distrt- I
<br />I buted to local communities, the Council would urge President Nixon to veto the Reform
<br />,
<br />I'
<br />I! Act.
<br />Ii Mr. Williams said the President will face an extremely difficult decision, and such
<br />I! Council support might be helpful to him.

<br />II Vote taken on motion as stated. Motion carried with Mrs. Bea1 and Dr. Purdy voting no.
<br />II Mrs. Hayward moved seconded by Dr. Purdy to approve Item 3 of the Committee report. Motion I -

<br />IJ assigning a separate committee to act as a film society. Mr. Mohr suggested that he

<br />II be appointed as a Council subcommittee to implement such a program and report back
<br />'I to the Council with recommendations. I

<br />/1 Dr. Purdy moved seconded by Mrs. Bea1 that the Council establish such a subcommittee,
<br /> and recommended appointment of Mr. Mohr to implement a diverse program for films in
<br />1\ the community.
