Jeff Miller, Roger Rutan, Emily Schue, <br /> Cynthia Wooten. <br /> The adjourned meeting of June 10, 1987. was called to order by His Honor Mayor <br /> Brian B. Obie. Copies of a letter dated June 16, 1987, from the Eugene Area <br /> Chamber of Commerce were distributed. along with copies of a tentative future <br /> council agenda. <br /> I. ITEMS FROM COUNCIL, MAYOR, AND CITY MANAGER <br /> A. Oregon Track Club <br /> Mayor Obie introduced Dale Grace of the Oregon Track Club who reported the <br /> near conclusion of the renovation of Hayward Field at the University of <br /> Oregon. Mr. Grace said the Mayor had been a key part of the project, and in <br /> e appreciation for the responsiveness and cooperation received, the club <br /> presented the Mayor and councilors with prints of local Olympians Alberto <br /> Salazar, Mary Slaney, and Joaquim Cruz running on Hayward Field. He thanked <br /> -- the council and said the club hoped for continued support. <br /> Mayor Obie thanked Mr. Grace and suggested that one of the prints be framed <br /> and hung in the City Manager's Office. He added that track was an important <br /> 1 egacy to the communi ty and that those three people were very.special <br /> residents and a source of pride to the community. <br /> B. Wall Street Journal Feature <br /> Mr. Rutan reported that Eugene was featured on the front of the second section <br /> of today's Wall Street Journal. He suggested that copies of the article be <br /> included in council packets on Friday. He said the article was about downtown <br /> malls across the country, and he added that journal had concurred with this <br /> morning's editorial in The Register-Guard. <br /> C. Alton Baker Park <br /> Mr. Rutan noted that the City as of late May had assumed responsibilities for <br /> maintenance of Alton Baker Park. He said the park was "a mess and an eyesore," <br /> and he had spoken with staff about upgrading maintenance and watering the lawn <br /> e MINUTES--Eugene City Council June 17, 1987 Page 1 <br />
