The Metro <br /> Plan, the Community Goals, and Public Land Zoning are additional examples of <br /> cooperation between the City and 4-J. <br />e Ms. Campbell introduced a slide show about the schools made for people who have <br /> not been in the school s recently. It described current activi ties in the school <br /> room. <br /> Councilor Lindberg arrived. <br /> III. SUMMARY AND DISCUSSION OF COOPERATION <br /> After discussion members decided to form a joint policy level task force made up <br /> of two board members and two councilorst staff, Mr. Gleason, and Dr. Lindquist. <br /> It was suggested the first meeting be scheduled in February. <br /> Members discussed what issues the task force should consider. Some suggestion s <br /> were: technology (phones and computers); excess property (land close to closed <br /> schools); criteria for city/school bidding on city/school-owned property; joint <br /> Community SChools/neighborhood programs; management of public lands; cost <br /> sharing of shared facilities; tax reform strategies; sister city program; job <br /> training/school cooperation; cost sharing of personnel and equipment. <br /> After Mr. Holmer noted that Lane Community College and the Lane Transit District <br /> also had equipment and personnel, members discussed including other jurisdictions. <br /> Mr. Gl eason cautioned the members to take "baby steps" to get thi ngs done. Other <br /> jurisdictions might be drawn in by the success of the first steps. Mr. Hanson <br />e said they should pick a few important issues. Mr. Jeppeson asked that the task <br /> force consider the cost-saving item first. Mr. Harri son asked that the task <br /> force evaluate the issues and pick items that could give the greatest benefit <br /> for the least risk. Ms. t1>sley said the "baby step" should give the public <br /> confidence and save money. <br /> Dr. Lindquist said such a project would be joint development of soccer fields. <br /> One thousand two hundred students play soccer. The project could be done with <br /> the cooperation of private as well as public groups. tlembers agreed the athl etic <br /> fields in the city were over-used. Mr. Gleason urged better management and <br /> scheduling of the public lands and joint use of the facilities. He sa i d they <br /> have the computer capacity to make more efficient use of sport fields by better <br /> schedul i ng. <br /> Ms. Wooten concluded the meeting by saying the members had agreed that there be <br /> a task force made up of two members of the School Board and two members of the <br /> City Council with appropriate staff.
