<br /> M I NUT E S <br />e Eugene City Council <br /> City Council Chamber <br /> October 12, 1983 <br /> 11 :45 p.m. <br /> COUNCILORS PRESENT: John Ball, Mark Lindberg, Brian Obie, Emily Schue, Betty <br /> Smith, Cynthia Wooten. <br /> COUNCILOR ABSENT: Richard Hansen, Freeman Holmer. <br /> Adjourned meeting of the City Council of the City of Eugene, Oregon, was called <br /> to order by His Honor Mayor Gus Keller. <br /> I. ITEMS FROM MAYOR AND COUNCIL, APPOINTMENTS, ANNOUCEMENTS, AGENDA ADJUSTMENTS <br /> A. Women Appointments to Boards/Commissions/Committees <br /> Councilor Schue expl ained that the "24 %" buttons being worn by the council and <br /> staff stood for the percentage of women serving on City boards, commissions, and <br /> committees, other than the Women's Commission. She announced that a reception <br /> would be held at 7 p.m. that evening at the Conference Center honoring those <br /> women currently serving on boards and commissions. She encouraged interested <br />e parties to attend the meeting. She said the emphasis was to encourage more <br /> women to serve on the boards, commissions, and committees. <br /> B. Woodstove Permits <br /> Councilor Wooten said that she had received statements of concern regarding the <br /> safe use of woodstoves and compliance with the permits required for their <br /> installation. She said that stoves were being installed without permits and <br /> that education on the stoves and the permits required was not being presented at <br /> the dealer level. She asked staff to present a summary on the enforcement of <br /> woodstove permits by the City and any possible agreements with dealers to create <br /> a cooperative arrangement for public education. Ms. Schue said the Eugene <br /> Regional Air Pollution Authority had a program educating the public on the safe <br /> use of woodstoves. She said one session was already held in the Eugene area and <br /> that there would be more scheduled. She said that this program should be <br /> supported by the City. <br /> C. Planning Commission Appointment <br /> Councilor Schue announced that the City Council had appointed Robert Bennett, <br /> 250 Palomino, to the Planning Commission to complete the unexpired term of Peter <br /> Thompson endi ng January 1, 1987, in its speci al meet i ng hel d earl i er that day. <br />e <br /> MINUTES--Eugene City Council October 12, 1983 Page 1 <br />
