<br />Ms. Miller circulated a sign-up sheet for councilors to indicate prefer- <br />~ ences for legislator meetings. <br /> <br />List of possible issues: Mr. Obie suggested that only a few top priority <br />issues be focused on. Ms. Smith suggested that the issues list be circulated <br />to councilors for their recommendations on priorities. Ms. Schue suggested <br />that issues be priority ranked for Council lobbying, and for staff work, as <br />time permi ts. <br /> <br />To determine ideas to build on, Ms. Wooten requested a summary of economic <br />development and international trade bills that were passed and not passed. <br /> <br />Mr. Hansen asked for the analysis of major issues to include an estimate of <br />their political success probability. <br /> <br />Mr. Holmer suggested that the council take a position soon on property tax <br />relief/government finance issues ("son of 311). He asked Ms. Miller to keep <br />councilors aware of positions being taken by other political groups. <br /> <br />Meetings with Legislators: Ms. Miller will keep councilors posted with regard <br />to proposed meetings with Senators Hatfield and Packwood. <br /> <br />Plans for City/State relationships: Ms. Miller explained the plans, noting the <br />five priority areas. Mr. Obie suggested that councilors be specifically assigned <br />to priority areas. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />State Boards and Commissions: Ms. Miller explained the attachments and staff <br />plans for more appointments. Members indicated that the Water Policy Review <br />Board should be added to the list of targeted boards. Ms. Nichols suggested <br />that contact be made with local incumbents to give input on the City's position <br />on specific legislation. Requirements for geographic representation for <br />committees should be investigated. <br /> <br />Mr. Holmer suggested that citizens be encouraged to file applications with the <br />Governor's Office for State appointments. <br /> <br />Members indicated agreement with the targeted list, with the addition of the <br />Water Policy Review Board. Mr. Obie said that appointments to the State Board <br />of Higher Education and Transportation are very important to the area. <br /> <br />Councilors complimented Ms. Miller for a good presentation. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />III.
