Obie. <br /> <br />I. TRIBUTE TO NILS HULT <br /> <br />Mayor Obie announced a memorial service to honor Nils B. Hult will be held at <br />the Hult Center Friday, February 15, 1985, at 5:30 p.m. Mayor Obie encouraged <br />the councilors, the staff, and the public to attend the service and to pay <br />tribute to Mr. Hult who contributed so much to the community. <br /> <br />II. PUBLIC FORUM <br /> <br />Mayor Obie opened the public forum saying the council scheduled the public <br />forum on the agenda to provide an opportunity for people to address the <br />council about issues not scheduled for a public hearing or a public <br />discussion. The public may bring items to the council's attention or give the <br />council information. The forum will provide an opportunity for the council to <br />learn of the community's needs from its citizens. <br /> <br />There being no requests to testify, Mayor Obie closed ~he public forum. <br /> <br />III. PUBLIC HEARING: DESIGN REVIEW COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION ON ALIGNMENT FOR <br />6TH/7TH AVENUES--WASHINGTON TO GARFIELD STREETS (memo, background <br />information distributed) <br /> <br />City Manager Micheal Gleason introduced the item. Public Works Director <br />Christine Andersen presented the staff report. She introduced Jim Gix, a <br />regional engineer for the Oregon Highway Division, who was available to answer <br />questions. She said written testimony from Jack W. Loe, Rod Ruhoff, Donald E. <br />Smith, and S. N. Jongeward and Jerry Traweek had been submitted to the <br />councilors. The Public Works staff had prepared a preliminary alignment for <br />the widening of 6th and 7th avenues from Washington to Garfield streets. The <br />alignment preserved as many of the historic trees as possible. Twenty-five <br />trees were identified as meeting the criteria in the charter amendment for <br />historic trees.
