<br />M I NUT E S <br />EUGENE CITY COUNCIL <br />February 2, 1976 <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />--- <br /> <br />Special meeting of the Common Council of the city of Eugene, Oregon, was called for the <br />purpose of selecting members for the newly formed Women's Commission. The special <br />session was called to order by Council President Gus Keller at 5:00 P.M. on Monday, <br />February 2, 1976, at city hall with the following council members present: Eric Haws, <br />Wickes Beal, Ray Bradley, Neil Murray, D. W. Hamel and Edna Shirey. Tom Williams was <br />absent. <br /> <br />The following people were interviewed for membership on the Women's Commission, <br />interviews conducted by Council President Gus Keller; Kathy Andrieu, Rosemary Batori, <br />George Russell, Beverly Cadbury, Therese Englemann,Janice Brandstrom, Baruch Fischhoff, <br />Melinda Grier, Mary Jensen, Kathy Johnson, Sarah Lichtenstein, Glenda Utsey, Ellen <br />Rosenblum, Jane Farrand and Mary Milhaupt. Donna Mortlock, also a finalist, was not <br />present. <br /> <br />At the conclusion of the interviews, the chair instructed each Council member to vote <br />for six candidates after which, to complete the roster, each Council member voted for <br />two additional candidates. By virtue of the balloting members selected for the <br />Women's Commission were: <br /> <br /> Sarah Lichtenstein 1650 Kona 1/1/79 term expiring <br /> Beverly Cadbury 300 Skyline Park Loop 1/1/78 <br /> Therese Englemann 1910 Fairmount Blvd. 1/1/79 <br /> George Russell 3435 Chambers 1/1/79 <br />e Mary Mi Ihaupt 2570 Spring Blvd. 1/1/78 <br />Baruch Fischhoff 2374 Onyx 1/1/77 <br />--- Rosemary Batori 2030 E. 19th 1/1/78 <br /> Jane Farrand 1787 Moss 1/1/77 <br /> Melinda Grier 2025 E. 17th 1/1/77 <br /> <br />Terms were established according to the number of votes cast for an individual, <br />Sarah Lichtenstein being named temporary chairperson by virtue of receiving the most <br />votes. It was agreed that two additional candidates, who received the next most <br />votes, would be considered as alternates in case one of the nine selected members <br />could not accept the appointment. The alternates were: Glenda Utsey, 2160 Agate, <br />and Janice Brandstrom, 2940 Olive. <br /> <br />Some discussion was held on whether applicants living outside the city limits shOuld <br />be appointed to commissions; and it was agreed that Council would proceed with <br />appointments, and come back to discussion of the issue at a later date. <br /> <br />r~. Murray moved and it was seconded to officially designate the nine <br />seleated candidates as Women's Commission members.
