<br />MINUTES <br />EUGENE CITY COUNCIL <br />February 5, 1976 <br /> <br />-e <br /> <br />Special meeting of the Common Council of the city of Eugene, Oregon, was called for the <br />purpose of selecting members for the newly formed Aging Commission. The special session <br />was called to order by Council Vice-President Eric Haws at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, <br />February 5, 1976, at city hall with the following council members present: Eric Haws, <br />Wickes Beal, D. W. Hamel, Edna Shirey, Ray Bradley. Torn Williams, Gus Keller, and <br />Neil Murray were absent. <br /> <br />The following people were interviewed for membership on the Aging Commission, interviews <br />conducted by Council Vice-President Eric Haws: Marlene Moore, Ron Wyden, Theo Allen, <br />Ron Webb, Boyd Morgan, Reverend Goldthwaite, Charles Strong, Mazie Venable, Jewel <br />Baker.' Harriet Waddy and Jean Freeman, also finalists, were unable to attend the <br />interviews. <br /> <br />At the conclusion of the interviews, the chair instructed each Council member to vote <br />for six candidates after which, to complete the roster, each Council member voted for <br />three additional candidates. By virtue of the balloting, members selected for the <br />Aging Commission were: <br /> <br />,-e <br /> <br />Mazie Venable <br />Charles Strong <br />Jean Freeman <br />Harriet Waddy <br />Theo Allen <br />Ronald Webb <br />Boyd Morgan <br />Rev. Goldthwaite <br />Marlene Moore <br /> <br />1270 Jacobs Drive, #A-IO <br />495 West 26th <br />2111 Hawkins Heights Blvd. <br />730 E. 36th, Apt. 4 <br />4927 Old Dillard Road <br />344 E. 14th <br />361 Ransom Court <br />2310 Van Ness <br />1394 Lincoln <br /> <br />1/1/79 term expiring <br />1/1/79 <br />1/1/79 <br />1/1/78 <br />1/1/78 <br />1/1/78 <br />1/1/77 <br />1/1/77 <br />1/1/77 <br /> <br />Terms were established according to the number of votes cast for an individual, <br />Charles Strong being named temporary chairperson by virtue of receiving the most votes. <br /> <br />Mr. Hamel moved seconded by Edna Shirey to officially designate the nine <br />selected candidates as Aging Commission members. Motion carried unanimously. <br /> <br />Some discussion was held on whether to extend an interview to Mr. Whitty Bass for the <br />Minority Commission, reason being he was the only member of the original Human Rights <br />Commission applying for a position on one of the four new commissions who was not <br />selected as a finalist. <br /> <br />Mr. Bradley moved and it was seconded that the Council vote for one of the <br />following three to add to the list of those to be interviewed for the Minority <br />Commission: Whitty Bass, Gloria Layden and Tod Schneider (Layden and Schneider <br />were the only two people applying that listed the Minority Commission as their <br />first choice who were not selected to be interviewed). Vote was taken <br />on the motion which carried, Council members Beal, Hamel and Shirey voting aye <br />and Mr. Haws and Mr. Bradley voting no.
