This proposal has a <br />greater impact on the city thaa any ever has - it can be positive or <br />negative, he said. <br />Arden Munkres, Active Bethel Cit~zens, noted their land use committee <br />has studied the proposal in their refinement paIn. There is nothing <br />in the proposed change that would allow preservation of rural type . <br />areas or existing housing at present time. <br />Louis Durchanek, 1760 Sylvan, submitted a statement from Howard Bonnett <br />and also spoke against the proposal, saying it is in violation of the <br />city adopted Laurel Hill neighborhood plan which encourages preservation <br />and enhancement of low density, resident ownership, plus preservation of <br />distinctive character. <br />Jim Johnston, 179 W. 37th, felt units will spring up without controls. <br />Joe Richards, 777 High, spoke against saying if preservation is desired <br />how can neighborhoods be changed so much. <br />Dan Knapp, 639 W. 29th, spoke of potential slumps, slides etc. on hill- <br />sides.with heavier buildings. <br />Jim Crouch, W. 35th Place, said the proposal would conflict with the <br />South Hills policy. <br />Glen Love, 393 Ful-Vue Drive, believes the proposal would bring an in- <br />vasion of development, noting that the south hills plan encourages <br />preservation of trees, open space, et8., resident home ownership and <br />long-term residency. <br />Ray Wiley, 777 High, has been trying to reduce housing costs for the . <br />past 15 years.
